Just dont make sense, and if you're positive you are right (which BTW I do find GOPs views on "social" issues horrible and outdated) they will pay by losing.

This is EXACTLY why I'm rejoicing over the fact that they may lose TX next.  You're starting to get it, you just don't realize it.

Republicans need a good, solid spanking to figure out that they've lost and move on.

I think I got it perfectly fine, seems more like you are more confused by your own wordsLOL
Why do you want them to fail? To see the error of their ways. OK but why? Aren't you no longer one? If they lose every election till the end of the time then so be it, why do you still want them to adopt new views? They have no need to, people support their views. If they are not popular enough with the country sucks for them. You dont need to feel the way you do.
I wanna defend you but I fear maybe you do want to have one party that runs the US along your views!
Or you are feeling angry and wanna take it out on the GOP.

^Quote of the week, and right on.

Geoff is so misreading things in how he believes the country is now permanently blue.  Once the GOP realizes they need to take JJ's advice, plus drop some of their social planks that young people reject, they'll find that the country is more than willing to give them another look....then, if they find a way to bring young Libertarians back to the party, look out.

They have their work cut out for sure, this will all be a delicate act to pull off.  But it can be done.  Regardless of what the media wants you to believe, this election was not a blowout.  A few points in a few key states and the R's could have won with a less than amazing candidate.  If they manage to actually nominate someone younger, a better communicator, who can articulate and appeal more to the throngs of non-liberals who would not support Romney, like JJ, Rob, etc, they can win. So keep on thinking pendulums never swing back Geoff, I'm looking forward to your reaction one cold day in the futureWink

But why do you want Republicans to adopt Dems policies?
Isn't that why you left? That's why there are parties, to reflect different views.
Just accept that your party is right and as ya said the other is in dire straights. Unless you still secretly want to be a Republican, but while holding your new views? Just dont make sense, and if you're positive you are right (which BTW I do find GOPs views on "social" issues horrible and outdated) they will pay by losing.

Alright, lets step outside of today's politics for a second.  Lets say we're back in the time of the civil war where one party supports slavery and the other is fighting it.  YES.  I want the other party to be forced to reckon with their failures and have to turn from their evil support of slavery!  Absolutely!  And I know it's going to take something big to force them to turn, so yes, I welcome this catastrophic failure of their ideals.  Now, you won't like me making the comparison of slavery to policies of today, but there are some policies the Republicans embrace that I think are similar situations and they need to be smacked soundly in the face until they can't get up before they'll finally give up on these fights, I think.

So you want to turn Democrats into Republicans?

Now I am confused.

I am comparing a historical situation in politics where one side is almost universally accepted to have been right to some situations in today's politics (which I'm not naming outright, but maybe some can guess what they are) that are not so universally accepted, but that I think one day will be.

Geoff's idea: turn republicans into democrats, and democrats into über-democrats. Don't allow any other ideas. Not even libertarianism or anything else. Everybody to the "left"!

Yeay, perfect democracy.

You don't seem to realize - it's not that I want total, absolute destruction of the Republican party.  What I want is moderation.  I want unity.  And that's the opposite of what the Republican party is about right now.  They are about absolutism, idealism, name calling, excluding groups of people (LGBT, Muslim, etc.) and demonizing them.  They just lost an election that should have been a gimme, and still they have not learned their lesson.  My hope is that in the next election they lose BIG.  Historically big.  To the effect that they can no longer deny the problems within their party.  Oh, they know they have some problems, but they can't seem to pinpoint it.  Right now all they are talking about is changing their language to sound more appealing to certain groups they've ostracized.  But that's just going to insult those groups, because they know that if you talk nice to them while trying to tear down policies that help them, it's just empty rhetoric.  So, I am hoping for something to come that will break the fever.

eh like I said, he's seen the error of his old ways, like I did with being a die hard Democrat, he still has time to realize the error of going to the Dems, eventually. And sadly, painfully :(
No need to be harsh anyway, our biggest weakness IMO is the limited gov folk are painted as radical, paranoid and belligerent...unfairly so but many people do  feed the image.Cry

All I was trying to say is the Democrats could make a lot of areas blue, like Republicans can make lots red...just ya know, itd cease to hold your ideals, since you have to reflect local beliefs. Look at Mittens. Popular moderate governor  of a liberal state, but has always been a joke to the countries Republicans. Likewise, if Wubya ran in Massachusetts it wouldn't go down very well.
We need more viable parties anyway! It's so painful to see everyone have to box into one of two

Geoff will be very happy when Democrats have absolute no competition and the balance of power he so strongly defends today ceases to exist in favor of an absolute rule of one party. All he want is something like a pseudo-democratic dictatorship, just in the hands of his party. Democracy is just a word he uses to legitimize his real desires.

There is no doubt, thanks largely to their archaic social beliefs and just flat out stupidity the GOP is in bad shape for the long run.
I have no doubt they can make the state "blue" if they try but it'll be by fielding moderate and certainly conservative Democrats. Is that really what you want??
Besides, I know you see this as biased and one sided but no liberal, and certainly no progressive, should want Democrats in power. Bring in the corporate state!

Nah cause that's silly! The first was just, IDK off putting and disturbing on a deep level I cant explain
Besides, between 4chan and the thought of "Rush Limbaugh in a miniskirt" nothing physical can disturb me.

I dropped that into live chat for TYT and the moderator said it was going to give her Newtmares.
