I have not yet heard 'Seabird', although I value his 'Sunset Wading' album. Gave it a 5 star review a few years back. Excellent bassist.

anyone knows if they plan to remaster this gem oneday : John G Perry - Seabird
This album is one of my top 5 canterbury album. So good !!! The only copy I've downloaded from the net sound ridiculously like an old tape copied from another one. I have tried to reedit it myself with some DAWs, the result is ok but I still got this hissss sounding in the background showing this is not a professionnal record... Sorry if that has already been discussed in the previous pages, I haven't read all so far... might take a look on some suggestions tho. Have a nice day ![]() Edited by Olivier! - April 18 2013 at 06:50 |

Joy Of A Toy is my Kevin Ayers moment. The next 2 albums are quite special too, after those few, the albums are a bit of a 'mixed bag', although nothing hideous really, just Kevin being Kevin I suppose. Oh, Dr Dreams was fairly interesting as well. I only kept those first 3 LP's of his though.

The remasters are very well done, with tons of bonus material. Let us know. |

I've got a record fair this Sunday, I'm going to keep a particular lookout for some Kevin Ayers LP/CD's and give them a shot, I'm very curious! Thanks for all the suggestions, guys

Hi there. That Kevin Ayers discussion made me willing to go further in my discography, crossing the Sweet Deceiver border. I bought Yes We Have no Mañanas... So Get Your Mañanas Today (1976).

Gilgamesh is a very special Canterbury band - and I worship the final National Health album (D.S. al Coda), produced in memory of dear Alan Gowen. Canterbury still lived on beyond the 70's.
Any love for the 80's Caravan albums ?? 'The Album' has some impressive stuff on it - probably a stronger album than 'Back To Front'...................

I don't think of Gong or Henry Cow as Canterbury though Legend has moments.

Oh yeah, and Henry Cow are more Canterburian than GonG any day of the week (especially the 'sock' albums

I don't really consider GonG as a Canterbury scene band. They have connections, and some likenesses (is that a word ??) but to me they will always be more of a Space Rock/Psychedelic band. 'Shamal' is about as Canterbury as they get in my mind............same goes for Steve Hillage (although Fish Rising's 'Solar Musick Suite' hits the mark).

Wow, lots of good stuff to check out here...
When it comes to Canterbury, I'm only really familiar with Gong and Caravan, I feel the need to explore Soft Machine & the works of Dave Stewart. BTW, I saw Caravan live on Monday, in a church in Oxford - wow!
