Agh. Back from London. sh*ttiest internet speed/connection you could ever imagine, which was why I've been a bit wayward my gents. Anyway I really hope all is well with everyone in their sonic universes. Enjoying a bit of time off today ( Friday ) so I supplanted myself in my mancave and had a time. ;)

Genesis-- Seconds Out... ( does it really get better than this? Man, the 5.1 DTS 24/96 mix by Nick Davis is insane. Total immersion. Rutherford's moog/Taurus pedles bring down my roof! What an experience. )

The mission-- Silver ( live at the brixton acadčmy 2011. )

IQ-- The Road Bones ( god. What a crushing album. Flawless. )

Devin Townsend project-- Addicted. ( seeing good old heavy Devy in concert on Tuesday. Still haven't picked up transcendence yet, but hopefully the deluxe edition will be at the merch swag stand. ;)

Volbeat. ( up from hell down from heaven) good live recording. These guys are fun. They have a good sound but they are complete hacks. Just my opinion. )

Opeth-- Ghost Reveries ( wow. This one has really grown on me quick. )

Threshold-- Extinct Instinct ( what a classic.)

Goblin-- Roller ( I have it played this in a bit. Just had to hear the title track. So incredible. )

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

I heard "The Endless River" again last week and really enjoyed it. Sure it's a collection of short ideas but they are so masterfully held together. It's also good to hear Rick getting the attention he deserves. To be honest, I prefer this one over "The Wall". The saxophone on "Anisina" really sucks though.

Today:
I Giganti - Terra in Bocca (First listen, this is amazing Clap)
Exponent - Upside Down (A German 70's Psych obscurity, keyboards aplenty!)
Choro Visceral - s/t (Very cool Heavy Psych from Peru with saxophone and violin.)
Yellow Magic Orchestra - s/t
Jiro Inagaki & Soul Media - Funky Stuff

More like being invited to a private Floyd writing session for me and a little herbal medicine enhance that feeling even more.

Yes, good take!
I think it will easily end up my favorite of the post-Rog era.  It was a great move to drop (almost completely) the lyrics of Samson and the singing in general.

Agreed but 'Louder than Words' certainly don't deserve the mean treatment it got by some jaded fans. A very nice song and a fitting end indeed.

^ I think it's just a free demo. I saw them a few months after they released it and they didn't have copies of it.

^  I ordered mine from their Bandcamp page.
I'm not sure if their 2015 EP is available other than dowload.

^  Your post was why I played it. Smile
I have the same orange splatter version on order and it should have arrived by now.
I'm trying not to order anything else until some of my recent purchases arrive.

It amazes me how you can drive with that kind of music Tongue

I haven't listened to the album in a while but my car's radio plays its songs a lot (out of 16GB of music), and I don't skip them. That's great driving music in my book LOL

Did you see my post on the vinyl thread? Smile

Same as the day before:
Il Paradiso degli Orchi - Il Corponauta (Great album, Michael Clap It really doesn't seem like an 80 minute album, there's so much diversity in moods and genres)
Perigeo - Non Č Poi Cosě Lontano (I picked this random suggestion on Youtube but I guess they were past their Prog days. Still, a nicely played soft Jazz album)
Kitaro - Ten Kai (Quite experimental and hypnotic, I like it)

Metallica - Kill em All.  So awesome.  The first 2 Metallica albums are all I need by that band.  All downhill after those.

Mate, I think you'll find that the thinking is that several other Italian bands went on to do more interestings things with orchestral elements than what the New Trolls did on that one. For instance, have you tried Banco's `Di Terra'? That has a real dynamic fusion of band and orchestra, not just the orchestral bits "added on top". I might have been a little over-zealous, but I seem to recall I gave that one a five-star review on the Archives some time back?!

I've really come to enjoy `Concerto Grosso' for what it is, a sweeping and pleasing album, if perhaps surface thrills over much in the way of depth?

I'll make sure check out Di Terra, I've never heard it. Thanks for that recommendation, friend. I like good orchestral work in RPI. And I like how you say "That has a real dynamic fusion of band and orchestra, not just the orchestral bits "added on top". That is what makes a good album with orchestra in my opinion. Contaminazione is killer - the orchestra really sounds like a part of the band, not just guests, if that makes any sense. Five Bridges by the Nice is great in my opinion. Very underrated by many.
