I just got my very first IQ album, the latest, Road of Bones, after such great reviews it's got all last year, and I'm really enjoying it. Still, I guess I've got to get used to the music more in order to fully apreciate it. Perhaps I'll have to get a bit more from them later on.

Richard, I appreciate you realising my short-comings.........
Yes, you are very lucky to have caught Andy in action. You know I am limited on these recent greats..... You stated that Cookie is not up to Andy's level....... Both incredibly astounding drummers.
I am truly sorry that I am such an arrogant person - I do appreciate digital things and CD's etc, but for my personal tastes and really what truly excites me (aside from CD only releases) - I do chase what my passion is....

btw I left off Neil Durrant in my post above. Annoying brain failure caused by posting too early in the morning! I would still pick Martin although Neil is well above Mark and has brought a lot to the table on TROB.
well put I`ll add my vote too!Star

^ Andy Edwards is just AMAZING !! I don't even have Frequency, or any Frost, just MAGENTA, and he kicks severe ass on that.

Ok say what would be the best possible IQ line up you could have?
Nicholls or Menel ( I respect Paul a lot and like his recent solo album BUT has to be Pete!)
Orford or Westworth (no contest here , sorry Mark!)
Holmes or ermmm (well bit of a 'Hobsons Choice' but anyway Mike is a legend!)
Esau or Jowitt ( now its gets tricky but I'm going for Tim because of that fretless bass work on The Wake , so memorable and beautiful)
Cook or Edwards ( Cook is such a good solid drummer and actually has come back stronger and better. Check out The Wake Live. The guy is superb .However that said Edwards is one of the best English drummers around and Frequency has a level of playing that Cookie is probably not quite at. So has to be Andy, sorry Paul I do feel guilty I really do!)

So for me the perfect IQ line up is Nicholls, Holmes , Orford, Edwards and Esau. Basically the 'classic' line up but with a different drummer. What do you think?

I'm glad Tim Esau is back on the bass, wondered what he was up to before returning.....
Now, TROB is yet another excellent album from them, but I still place Ever and Lush Attic over it. I have to listen more. I too am one of those that finds the bonus material a frad stronger than the album proper.

Those moog minataur pedals he uses are just awesome. They vibrate my entire house! :)

Reminds me of Rutherford's moog Taurus pedals he used for genesis. In particular, Squonk. :)

Anyway. I still feel at this point that IQ are in the #1 spot with in the Neo prog genre.
Arena is a close #2. ;)

Its an interesting thought as I well remember thinking that IQ were the only eighties band that felt close to that fearlessness of early seventies prog. The track that made me think that in particular was Through The Corridors. Some pretty impressive chops but also lyrics that are dark and abstract and need to be pondered over.

It wasn't until Par Lindh's Gothic Impressions that I had a sense of that again and then IQ come back with the impressive Subterranea album to put them back into my personal top spot.

and now we have Road Of Bones Thumbs Up
Thumbs Upwell said I`m with you Clapits IQ Neo-Progressive Rock Band `80`s wonderful...

I came early to everything Steve Wilson...But I came late to IQ!
 I love IQ.
Whoo Hoo Hoo Hoo
IQ Dark Matter
The Road to Bones!

It's so sad that the talented IQ were forced to get day jobs to support their musical genius...
If they had recorded their first album in 70'...they would be touring like Yes or The Music Box by now...

Their last album was great, never expected to be this good. Frequency was great, never thought they could reach that level again, and they did.
