King Crimson - Epitaph from "Court"
King Crimson -The entire albums from ITWOP to Discipline Tongue
ELP - Title track to Trilogy - Trilogy
ELP- The Barbarian - First album
Jethro Tull - My God - Aqualung
Kansas - The Wall, Cheyenne Anthem and Miracles out of Nowhere from Leftoverture
The Moody Blues - too many to mention but a few favorites are candle of life, minstrel song, you and me, my song, so deep within you and the actor.
Rush - circumstances, entre nous, Jacob's Ladder, Camera Eye, Witch Hunt, Losing It, In the End. With Rush it's difficult to say what the deep tracks are because even the so called lesser known songs are appreciated by the fans. Is YYZ or Xanadu a lesser known song? Maybe only to someone who has only heard their radio songs.

Epitaph and Trilogy deep cuts?? I don't think so bc I see them on Pandora's prog stations all the time!

btw, the classic Crimson albums that don't get the credit they deserve are Poseidon and Islands

Pandora probably plays everything though. I don't think they have a dj arbitrarily choosing which ones are good (or popular) and which ones aren't. I've never heard any of those on regular radio (or at least not in a very, very long time). Plus they would be very likely to be played by Sirius XM's deep tracks channel.

I have long felt that Side Two of TFTO ("The Remembering - High the Memory") was a deep cut that was very much under-appreciated.  It has some of the best vocals & instrumentals on the entire LP!

Relayer.....all the dying cried before you!
Relayer.....we've rejoiced in all their meaning!

(Howe's guitar work during that movement is stunning!)

Gong - Zero The Hero And The Witch's Spell (Flying Teapot)
Caravan - As I Feel I Die (If I could do it all over again, I'd do it all over you)
VdGG - Whatever Would Robert Have Said (Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other)
Magma - Ki Ïahl Ö Lïahk (1001° Centigrades)
Renaissance - The Vultures Fly High (Scheherazade And Other Stories) while I do have some issues with the title track, this other story is a perfect little ditty.
Peter Hammill - The Lie (Bernini's Saint Theresa) (The Silent Corner And The Empty Stage)
Comus - The Bite (First Utterance)
Jethro Tull - For a Thousand Mothers (Stand Up) -just awesome energy and drive
The Mothers of Invention - Invocation and Ritual Dance of the Young Pumpkin (Absolutely Free)
Gentle Giant - An Inmates Lullaby (In a Glass House) -it represents a certain kind of playfulness in sound I miss from them after Phil left.

-agree with the already mentioned: A Pillow of Winds (& Summer '68, really) and White Mountain

A lot of originality in your selection !
for VDGG, Hammill, Tull, Gentle Giant

  • "I Am the Dance of Ages" (Off "All Together Now," by Argent)
  • "White Mountain" (Off "Trespass," by Genesis)
  • "Croma" (Off Alphataurus' eponymous debut album)
  • "Articolazioni" (Off "Tilt," by Arti e Mestieri)
  • "Sky High" (Off "The Good Earth," by Manfred Mann's Earth Band)
  • "Summer '68" (Off "Atom Hear Mother," by Pink Floyd)
  • "King of Twilight" (Off "A Tab in the Ocean," by Nektar)
  • "The Face" (Off "The Power and the Glory," by Gentle Giant)
  • "Alaska" (Off U.K.'s eponymous debut album)
  • "The Prophet" (Off "Time and a Word," by Yes)
These are just a few of my favorites, and I really think these songs should get more love. Some of em (Summer '68, The Face, Alaska) are a little more surface level but still criminally underrated. What are you guys' thoughts?

great selection !
lot of tracks i know and like , except Nektar's I don't have 'Tab' and don't remember that song neither.... I'll fix that very soon :-)

Great picks man! I always considered "Aspirations" to be more of a fan favorite off that album but I can see it being a little more obscure since Kerry Minear is singing. Dusk and Can Utility are awesome and definitely need more appreciation in the greater Genesis fanbase. "Twilight Alehouse," is actually a really interesting pick here. I completely forgot this song existed so I went back and listened to it, and it's amazing. "Leaf and Stream," is one of my favorite Wishbone Ash songs, and I listen to it a lot when I sleep. "Aristillus," is also a really nice song. Definitely didn't expect to see "Pictures of home" on here but I love the drum work from Ian Paice on here (and as always the Jon Lord organ :).

Happy to read your comment :-)

Imo any prog song that wasn't a "hit" or played on the radio is a deep track. I mean come on this is prog we're talking about. Wink

Good pick!
The LP is sandwiched between 'classics' and marks a departure in sound and scope, but is great for what it is!

The only songs I'm not keen on are Sealion & Third Hoorah - whole of side 1 is flawless imo

You'd be shocked actually. The Trespass album is absolutely loaded with some of the greatest Genesis deep cuts. "Visions of Angels," and "Stagnation," are my two favorites, coupled with the more well known, "Looking for Someone." I recently picked it up on vinyl and I've been wearing it out.

I agree. I was once in the "Knife is the best" category and then I really listened to that whole album. It's up there with anything they ever did in the Gabriel era. Stagnation in particular is just massive.

I love Can Utility. One of the most underrated Genesis songs of all time. I'm actually seeing Steve Hackett live in November on his Foxtrot Tour, so I can't wait to see it live. "Survival," is also a favorite of mine, but I feel like it is well appreciated in the community (and rightfully so).
