Click Tools > Add-ons>Get Add-ons>Search for Adblock Plus>Install>Restart Firefox>(the Add-ons window should come up when it's restarted)Click the options button for Adblock Plus>Click Filters>Add Filter Subscription>(I add EasyList USA and Fanboy's List)>Add Subscription

It should work after that. It looks like a long process because I described it in detail.

He probably just needs to reset his browser after installing the add-ins.  It's not difficult to get it working.  However, I've not had to do it for 2 years or so as every update seems to do keep Adblock+ installed.
