I agree with this, and "Carrying No Cross" is the best thing they band ever did. (Saying that as a statement, not a Hot Take)LOL

I fully agree.

Staying on the topic of DT: Systematic Chaos is just as good as Images and Metropolis Pt 2

Hot take: I really enjoyed Night Terror by Dream Theater.

^Yeah, as I was saying above, either widen your search, or just admit it comes down to taste. These broad generalizations based on personal bias really do a disservice to people making really killer music out there.

On the one hand, that's an overwhelming number of bands, "most."

On the other hand, there are both many bands that adhere to that formula, and there are many that choose to forego it.

The Gentle Giant records "The Missing Piece" and "Giant For A Day" are fantastic, and I give more time to listen to them than their earlier material (except for Free Hand which is my all time fave of theirs).

^I agree that Time and a Word is sorely under-appreciated.

On the other hand, I am very intrigued when bands like Bubblemath or Panzerballett create melodies that are difficult to hum along to, and they are from the 21st century. So perhaps you missed their point, or their point simply doesn't appeal to you.

KC best album is Islands and everything after it except for Red is not that good.

Trespass is only surpassed by Selling England by the Pound for Genesis.

A Time and a Word is among the top three Yes albums and the orchestra was a good addition to their music.

The last really good Floyd album is Wish you were here, the rest is just ok.

Gentle Giant would be better if they kept their experimental nature of their debut.

Porcupine Tree is only remotely prog until 1999 or 2000

Family's real gem is Family Entertainment

All the Magma output is very good except from MDK

Most of the 90s and newer prog bands missed the point because what was great about Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, ELP, KC, GG, Tull, etc was that it mmixed great instrumental passages, complexity and musical prowess with sing along choruses and humming-to melodies.

High fricking five! Wonderful album. Definitely a return to form. Speaking of Decemberists, here's a hot take from a friend of mine:

I've never thought I'd see "urination" mentioned in the prog lounge, strange days we're living. Ouch
Have we run out of prog hot takes?!

It is sort of a record. The last time urination was used in a post was in 2006:

Once in a blue moon I've mentioned farts or poops in the Prog Music Lounge, but generally I've kept that in the Just for Fun section. I try to behave. It's not easy. Embarrassed

^ Indeed. And when you talked about Hip Hop and I referred to Orange Blossom it actually made me think of this track (that whole album is, IMO, a wonderful example of a mix between rock, Arabic music, electro, Hip Hop and still other elements... No Gangsta Rap, though ;) ):

Yes. I agree. It can absolutely be done with taste! That's pretty much how a lot of fusion musical genres all around the world came into existence! Just do it wisely.
