I've seen the late Colin McRae roll over several times in his Impreza and walk away without a scratch.  The cars are reinforced well.  However, the general public are not.

Yep the skill of them is amazing and this is why some of their drivers have done well at The Race of Champions.

IRL is going in the right direction racing on more road and street courses.... not only for safety, but also to create more variety, like 90's CART 

Everyone's right, chances are low. And almost always the catch fences work fine.
But IRL is some crazy stuff. If there is never a major accident, it will be purely luck.

Renna went over the fence, but that was with the previous generation of IRL cars which had a serious aero instability, which saw about half a dozen drivers have serious airiel accidents, including Mario Andretti on his one off testing return. The current cars dont have that problem as Dallara spent a lot of time sorting it out.

No, one or two cars can clear those catchfences. Which recent history has proven.

IRL has been incredible lucky so far. But the clock is ticking down to the big one where they, the gig promotors and the track owners will have to pay out hundreds of millions of dollars to the relatives of those who attended a race and never came back again.

Piquet's "accident" could had hurt or even killed people. A wheel may have jumped over the fence. You do not and shall not plan incidents that endanger other people with the purpose to gain an advantage. Briatore got what he deserved and good riddance. 

I still not understand why dozens upon dozens of people was not killed in that Russian roulette Indycar race at Chicagoland one month ago. There is a big open-wheel racing accident waiting to happen and we are counting down the hours and the days to that accident.  

Alonso's fine, Renault get a suspended ban (so there fine as long as they dont do it again), Briatore gets a lifetime ban from FIA sanctioned events (not just F1) and any drivers that he managers will from now on be refused a superlicense (thats Webber, Kovaleinen, Grosjean and possibly Alonso from the current grid, but it wont take mch for them to get out of there contracts) and Pat Symonds gets a five year ban from F1. Piquet, unfortunatly, gets away scott free thanks to Max granting him immunity. As far as I can tell this fair, despite the rubbish the idiot press are running about guilty teams getting awaywith heinous crimes, as the three people responsible for this scandal all got sacked from Renault (I dont for a second believe that Symonds and Briatore quit out of the goodness of their hearts, but were persuaded to) and have been punished for it (except Piquet).

The biggest surprise with this that i've read is that Piquet might have been the one to have suggested to crash in the first place! I find that hard to believe but is this whole sorded affair.
Does leave the question who is running the team now?

Renualt confirmes that they cheated in Singapore 2008 !!! Briatore and Symonds has lost their jobs. 

That's just incredible. To win a race, they are more than happy to put other lives in risk. In fact; great risk. I never ever thought they were guilty, but I am now proven wrong. What has the world come to ? 

Like Fisichella, you mean? 

He sure isn't going to stay at Ferrari.  If he doesn't retire, then he may join one of these lesser teams.

And although Rubens is the oldest guy in F1, I cannot see him moving whilst he's in the form of his life (although the car helps too, of course).
