Steve, if you want to tell people how to use the internet, please buy your own version of it.

Thread bashing is not valid criticism. Not in your world or this one. Babble on if you must, as I said, I'll see you in the next "Pepper is Prog?" thread.

"We've derailed this thread long enough"

Speak for yourself, Steve.

Some threads need derailing. For example, the ones posted by a hip hop producer about "how to make fresh beats". By your logic, anyone can come on here, put up any irrelevant or inane thread and we all have to nicely reply to the OP, not going off topic or anything.

"Valid criticism".

I think asking the question is merely a waste of time.
I find the OP to be one put up more or less for the sake of putting a post up.
There's a lot of this on here.
I wish there were less, for the sake of quality of the board.

I also think that if someone thinks that on any forum, all threads MUST refer to an OP, that person should perhaps realise that they don't make the rules, and perhaps cogitate on that before calling people trolls or issuing a tantrum ultimatum.

The point of "this is a junk thread" is a valid one.
We've derailed this thread long enough. We can reconvene in the next "Is Pepper's prog thread?", which be posted in the next few weeks if past practice is anything to go by, where you can once again deride the OP's question. I will once again take offence that a 12-14 year that has just discovered prog after ditching the crud of Bruno Mars and 21 Pilots has his thread topic trashed. Hopefully by that time, Greg (Dark Elf) will develop some wit and make his mock lyrics actually funny. As talented blues guitarist are not known for brilliant lyrics, I won't hold my breath. But then again, why should they?

Sgt Pepper is as much prog, as Kind Of Blue is death metal
Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

Yes, the board is here to discuss prog rock, but I just find myself looking at some of these "is this prog" posts and being reminded of "Solve if u r genius" posts on Facebook et al. Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh, but some posts seem to be put up just for the sake of putting a post up.

Is Sergeant Pepper prog ? Well. I'm really not bothered, but it was a groundbreaking and stunningly good album, in it's day. I give it a spin every now and again and enjoy it. I'm not really worried if it's prog, progressive pop, psychedelia or whatever, to be honest. Music is art, people interpret art in different ways. One man's prog is another man's psychedelic pop.

I compose music, and I hardly ever think "I know, I'll sit down and write dark ambient" or whatever. It's just a label. I dislike labels, I tend to think labels are invented by record companies to shift product. I suppose I'm in the Frank Zappa camp there. If you want to musically dissect Sergeant Peppers and apply music theory to it to determine what it is or isn't, fine, but to do that with any credence you have to be a musician with vast experience of the genre. It's the usual Internet thing of someone having an opinion and voicing it without the background technical knowledge to back it up.

And it's art. You shouldn't define art by the means of science.

So, sorry, posts like this just irritate me. You've probably noticed: I am ancient and decrepit and curmudgeonly. That's my $0.02, but probably voiced in a more constructive manner than the post above, for which apologies.

THIS man I like! (Buys him a beer, clinks glasses) Cheers!
More question bashing instead of answering the OP's question, which is all that required of any respondent to do when replying to this thread. Rest assured Peter that the moment that you post one of your inane questions or topics in PA, along with the other trolls in this thread, I will you treat you the same in my responses to your posts. I would tell you to just grow up, but that I know when I'm wasting my time with someone as selfish and juvenile as you. I hope that you're impressed with yourself, because you've had absolutely the opposite effect on me.

Steve. The question requires bashing *because it is an inane question*.

Think about it, please. That's the point I am, believe it or not, trying to make. You may like a forum full of "solve if u r genius" inane threads put up for the sake of merely putting a thread up. I've tried very hard to give a constructive and polite answer but you seem to be coming back with an attitude which suggests your haemorrhoids have had a Vesuvian scale flare up.

(See "I will treat you with the same responses" above.)

Good to see you Michael.   There is that fine line between fun, relaxing, cathartic net chatting and stressful, circular nonsense.   Nice to see you finding a balance.

I have to stick up for Peter here. On my texting thread(which turned into a total joke lol), he was nice to me. So I think there might be a misunderstanding here but I truly don't believe he's doing any question bashing at all. He's just not that kind of guy.

See , I thought I did answer it by saying is doesn't matter--the notion of Prog is subjective. I don't recall calling anyone any names, yet I am labelled juvenile, selfish and a troll. A stranger seems to hate me. That actually bothers me.
I don't need this stress. People misunderstand and take responses so seriously, when all I intended to do is push an alternate view of how one views art.

Anyway, I don't hate or even dislike anyone here (I don't know anyone here). Clearly, I am not cut out for forums. I am out of here. Goodbye.

Micky and Steve....

They're like the Simon & Garfunkel of ProgArchive bitches:

In the clearing stands curmudgeons
by the name Stevie and Mick,
And they carry the reminder
Of every post they grudge on --
man, the sh*t is thick....

Anyhow.. Raff was on this morning so I decided to pop in and see how everyone's doing and see if the site still had some life in it. Thanks to you and Peter for showing the fire is still there haha

^ Yes I do and the feeling has always been mutual. Anyway, where the hell have you been? You've been missed by many, not just by me!

Especially when we need election stats from Trump v Hillary. Seriously.
