Today, after a couple of Drifting Sun albums, I had the pleasure of discovering Egberto Gismonti.
Albums: 1. Egberto Gismonti: This self-titled album does a pretty damn good job mixing genres, but is also a little too creative, not deciding what it should be. Still, it's just as beautiful as Thembi, and slighlty more consistent. 93/100 2. Academia de danças: Avant-prog??? Some, but not enough rock. More like avant-garde jazz to me. And this is a much more beautiful album that maintains a perfectly wave-riding flow with only a slight hiccup of boredom during the middle section, much like the Banco debut. 99.5 3. Corações futuristas: A third stream album that improves n everything the last two albums did but sacrificing the rough avant-garde behavior in place of classical grandeur. 100 4. Agua & vinho: Absolutely none of the dated cheese that samba albums of the time even makes a cameo appearance here. Instead, it's all serious atmospheric poetry. 98.

^ Yes, Canterbury is a subgenre that I’m still digging into. Probably the first album I listened to was Caravan’s In the Land of the Grey and Pink, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They just don’t make music like that nowadays. Brilliant!

It's good to know my love of Jazz and Space Rock has almost universal appeal here at PA. In a typical day I'll maybe listen to four prog albums (like yesterday for instance where I listened to four albums by Band of Rain (weather permitting)) with the remaining albums all falling outside of PA's hallowed halls. There are some categories of music I'd never listen to on PA though, such as Avant Prog, Tech/Extreme Metal and Zeuhl. The only PA music genre I've listened to in its entirety so far is Canterbury Scene music, which I love (mostly).

^^ I see. These are interesting categories. I’m surprised it is 1%, but I have checked out a number of your links and enjoyed music outside (but often related to) Prog, such as different jazz genres (like bossa nova) and space rock. I see that you’ve put together reviews for all the Prog categories, with cross-over being number one (although that could be due to the abbreviated time format of the genre). I often pick up good recommendations here, especially from you, AFKC, and Matti. Much appreciated.

Thanks Jake. Believe it or not, I've barely listened to 1% of the albums in PA's huge database as the vast majority of music I listen to online every day is non-prog, and talking of libraries, I'm either reading a book, polling, or editing and adding to any one of my album playlists below whilst listening to music. ![]() Prog Britannia: Album Reviews - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121162&PN=104 A-Z of Classic German Prog - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=123882&PN=29 A-Z of Japanese Psych & Prog Rock - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121026&PN=14 Boogie Wonderland - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121294&PN=6 Bring Out the Danish! - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=132075&PN=6 Canterbury Scene Music - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121917&PN=16 Classic Dutch Prog & Neo Prog - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=125555&PN=23 The Classical Crossover Corner - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121840&PN=5 The Dark Side of the Moon - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121083&PN=14 The Easy Listening Lounge - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=122325&PN=5 From Genesis to Revelation and Beyond - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121148&PN=4 The Gong Family Albums - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=127423&PN=3 Greek Prog: From Alpha to Omega - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=130280&PN=6 The Jazz-Funk Lounge - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121567&PN=11 Legends of Laurel Canyon - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=130983&PN=9 Morricone: Movie Music Maestro - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=133966&PN=2 Prague Archives: East European Prog - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121462&PN=7 Prog Line A-Z: From Asia to Zyma - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=125793&PN=21 Prog Mega-Lists International - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=133545&PN=4 Progressive Electronica - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121442&PN=7 The Psychedelic Soul Kitchen - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121553&PN=10 Psychedelicatessen - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121520&PN=22 Renaissance: Northern Lights - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121233&PN=4 Space Rock Explosion - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121509&PN=17 A Swiss Roll of Honour - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129329&PN=5 Symphonic Metal Heaven - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121569&PN=17 Synth Britannia - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=121862&PN=12 Tangerine Dream Team - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129514&PN=38 Rick Wakeman: The Caped Crusader of Prog - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=123837&PN=19 There's a lot more music blogs out there on PA. These are just the main ones that I listen to most days. I wouldn't say every waking hour is spent listening to music on PA, but it's not far off.

^ What % of the albums on PA have you listened to so far? How do you decide what to listen to next? I remember this retired guy who decided to read every book in the library, and he actually did it. Are you trying to cover everything in PA?
