probably why no one has commented...

Since we don't have a band name yet, I've hesitated on creating a myspace, so I just put the tracks in a .zip file on megaupload.  Just follow the download link and the tracks are there.

We've written 2 songs since then, both of which are quite awesome, but we don't have any good recordings of them yet.

Last time I was at my semi respectable music store it in the mall, I saw some Mogwai. Are they any good?

Yeah they are.
To basically repeat what others have said, good post-metal bands are Red Sparowes, Pelican, Russian Circles, and The Pax Cecelia (which I'm listening to now)

Maybe we can turn this into the post rock appreciation thread, and the post rock/experimental appreciation thread can be the experimental appreciation thread.

Mogwai is awesome, but definitely not metal.  They're one of the archetypes of post-rock.  very big, lots of dynamics (heck, they practically invented  the loud-soft-loud thing.)  I'd recommend Happy Songs for Happy People.

Hmm... that's actually pretty tough sometimes unless you've got a really good indie music store nearby.  I wouldn't count on finding any at Best Buy. Dead

Oh my, where to begin? Big%20smile

A recent favorite of mine is Rosetta... they're a bit simpler in philosophy than Isis, but their sound is just huge.  They're just epic post-metal with as much reverb as possible on every instrument, and lyrics based on Arthur C. Clarke stories.  "Metal for Astronauts", if you will.  Their sound took a bit of getting used to, even for an Isis fan like myself, but I still think they're pretty great. 

Their debut LP "The Gallilean Satellites" is their best IMO... better than their more recent release.  It comes as 2 discs: one is a straight post-metal disc, the second is more experimental, dark ambient material... and they're meant to be played simultaneously!  A great listening experience!

I am probably putting this in the wrong place, but this will probably rouse some good debate.
 
So, I got Isis' Oceanic about three weeks ago, I put it in a poll the day I got it with a handful of other albums. After all this time, I decided that this album was easily my favorite of the nine or ten I put up (even though it has like a 3.6 rating which is preposterous). I am also getting some of their other albums too soon.
 
I wanted to know about other post rock/metal bands that are out there that are as good as Isis. I cant really tell whats post and whats experimental in our post/experimental genre on the front page. I have some Pelican, who are good, but don't really have the substance behind them that Isis does, and Neurosis is hardly post rock, at least given to the rising isn'tThumbs%20Down.
 
Any suggestions or questions?
