When I first heard Images and Words when it came out I almost fell off the sofa laughing.  Fortunately there are enough great musical moments that you can block out the high school prose contest.  I can't say the same for most of what followed.

Okay. Well I have to agree with you: some of DT lyrics are horrendous.

ok im giong to have to back up JMCecil,...Dream Theater lyrics, although arent that bad(ok mabey they are,) contain no meaning, its spelled out 1..2..3 no thouhgt involved, in my opinion to be great lyrically they words have to provok thought, carry meaning - in that sense DT lyrics are not very good

Exactly, except on some songs on ToT, maybe Portnoy could swear a bit less.

And, I'm not that hard to please really.  But if someone asks a question that suggests that anyone who answer is going to give a negative reply, that's what they should expect.  I think DT has some great musical ideas, but the lyrics are cheezy as all get out.  The amount of cliche in them is unbelievable.

Bad poetic license, I was busy looking in the book of rhymes for something that worked with sofa.

I like that song .

I like lots of songs where the lyrics could be written by a 3rd grader.  The question was, "why do people hate on DT lyrics"

Why so many people says that DT lyrics are bad, i think in metropolis pt.2 they did a great job.    Yes, the lyrics are simple but so good for the theatrical concept story...

For every truth even the contrary is true...
