WOW, there is a copy of PT's Recordings on eBay selling for £6.... That seems too suspicious to me considering how much is usually is.  And I'm not just saying that just because I paid more! Wink

Oh wait, nevermind, I thought it was on the buy it now list.... That price will shoot up.

I'm not a big spender. I think the most expensive cd I ever bought was The Buggles' Adventures In Modern Recording, and that was only 36,50.

I forked out about $72.00 USD for Chicago's At Carnegie Hall (aka Chicago IV) 3CD set some time back, and $51.00 USD for Johnny & Edgar Winter's Together CD (after missing out on it at over $70.00 USD on a couple of occasions) ...neither of them prog.

I paid $64.00 AUD (Aussie dollars) the day Pink Floyd's P-U-L-S-E was released here in Western Australia ... it sells for nothing like that now ... do the new copies of P-U-L-S-E have the gimmicky pulsating LED in the spine of the cover?

I have tried to pay some seriously silly amounts for some old Aussie prog LP's ... but there has always been someone prepared to pay something a little bit more out-bloody-rageous than me! You get that in eBay world Big%20smile

^ that's ok too ... but they would reach more more people on emusic.com, and their music is perfectly suited for that website. But of course it's their call ... Smile

If Recordings is going to be released as a download, it's more likely that it would be released via the Burning Shed PT download store.

I think the most expensive CD item I've ever bought was the first Genesis Archives set, which I paid £24 (US$42) for. Considering its a 4-disc set though, that wasn't too bad.

When I was a kid, the "holy grail" of pricey albums was Consequences by Lol Creme & Kevin Godley (formerly of 10cc). On release, it routinely sold for £12 or more - and this was in 1977/78!! A buddy of mine happened to be in the right place at the right time back then, and picked up his copy for £2 in Glasgow's 23rd Precinct record shop.

One of the main reasons why I've managed to significantly build up my collection in recent years is due to the fact that I don't spend huge amounts on any one specific item. Another reason is the opening up of a significant amount of disposable income as I move into middle-age Dead, but that's another story.........

As my old friend Arthur Guinness(Clap) says. good things come to those who wait. I've found that by being patient, doing LOTS of searching, and properly setting up preferences on sites such as Amazon and ebay to let you know when bargains crop up, you can find almost anything at a reasonable price eventually. I've also taken to often buying discs second hand, something that until a few years back I'd never have considered doing.

I know that these solutions don't work for everyone, but all I'm saying is don't be too anxious and rush into paying a whole lot more for any one item than you really need to.

By the way, the bank account is going to take quite a hit over the next few weeks, with the release of the SACD/DVD versions of the post-Gabriel Genesis albums, the remastered/expanded versions of the Alan Parsons Project material, and new albums by Knight Area and Porcupine Tree. Amazon are asking for £15.99 each for the Genesis sets on pre-order, but it seems that the place to go is CD-WOW, where they are priced at only £10.99 inc postage.

I've never seen it go for that much - $1200 is usually the ballpark figure.

The most I've seen a Prog Rock album sell for is Necronomicon's "Tips Zum Selbstmord", the Best Prehodi pressing once fetched $2200:

Most I've ever splashed out on vinyl is £100 for a complete (all 5 inserts and plastic cover) first press (green label) copy of "Glastonbury Fayre"

...followed by £80 for a first press stereo copy of "Rubber Soul".

I sold a first press of "Tommy" by the Who on behalf of a friend for £140, though.

Collectible Prog albums I own (and have spent more than £30 but less than £60 on) include;

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

I know that Lightbulb Sun is to be re-released this year.  Hopefully not Recordings though.

I guess you would not say "hopefully" if you were still looking for your copy, right?Wink

I guess that in that case I'll simply download it somewhere ... it's a shame though that it's not available legally. I mean, why not simply offer it as a download on emusic.com ... that would not diminish the value of the original release.

I got 2 CDs (Ash ra Tempel & FM) from e-bay's half.com for about 8 bucks each, not bad, but when I hit pay I realized that they charge about $14 - $15 extra EACH to ship to Canada. (border duties, etc.) I just felt scammed.

I payed about $85 for my Recordings copy as well.  I understood that there were only 20,000 (they each are numbered) and would never be released again.

The deluxe edition of John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. Worth ten times as much.
