Logan,

Certainly can pick one off this list. Peter Gabriel's Melt. Great album, probably my favorite solo release of his.

Others not on the list:

Rush: Permanent Waves
Yes: Drama
Alan Parsons Project: Turn of a Friendly Card
Sky: Sky 2
Dixie Dregs: Dregs of the Earth
Jeff Beck: There and Back
Genesis: Duke
Steely Dan: Gaucho

Rush and Yes released excellent albums. Not one track I don't like or am ambivalent about. Even Man in a White Car is interesting and I wish Yes would have developed that song a bit more.

APP release is one of my favorites from them. The 16 minute title track is quite good and Games People Play is a radio friendly track done right with tight playing, great vocals, interesting lyrics and top notch production.

Sky 2. John Williams is my favorite Classical guitarist, so Sky held interest. Very good album. I remember seeing them on tv in concert and was impressed. It would have been around this time frame that the album came out. I think the concert was on PBS.

Dixie Dregs and Jeff Beck. Beck and Morse two of my very favorite guitarist. I wore There and Back out. My second favorite album from Beck. Bonus points for "The Pump" being used in the movie Risky Business. Dixie Dregs musicianship is as good as it gets.

Genesis and Steely Dan. Not their best, but still good albums. For Genesis, Duke is their last Prog album. Gaucho is a let down compared to their previous album Aja, which is their best album and a certified masterpiece. However, taken on its own, Gaucho is a good listen with a number of solid tracks.

These are 25 of my favourite albums from 1980. I'm sure I am missing favourites and Present should have been in here but it went into the 1981 poll before instead. I still have not done 1982 because I could not decide on what full 25 options to add. While it still has many albums I love, 1981 and 1980 are particularly strong years for me, and I plan to add some non-1982 albums to the poll that covers 1982. A couple of personal faves came up in the 1981 poll that would have been there had I not missed them and those will go in my 1982 poll.

The numbers are not very meaningful, fairly arbitrary, reflects on what my more interests have been as well as long term interests, but not accurately. The numbers are a feature of Awesome Prog where I made my list and it does help me to organise these lists and think about what is meaningful to me. If it made the list, that album has been important to me and remains significant to me, be it at number one spot or at 25. I just don;t want people reading too much into the numbers (and I know Moshkito has some issues with numbers, preferences, greatest hits...). I like to share what is and has been special to me with others and I wish I did had more in my personal life (that I physically get together with) to do that with, but at the same time as an introvert I commonly do avoid getting together with people as I find it exhausting.

Please try to vote for five of these options if you can (more if you want to). I am happy to hear about other releases not in the poll provided that you comment on the choices. This commenting could be by voting and mentioning a release or releases in your post, saying what you know that does not appeal, or saying that you know none of the albums in the poll. That context is, those kind of details are, important to me. Helps me to make sense of and appreciate where people are coming from and creates a more enjoyable and warmer atmosphere for me (not that we need more global warming).
