^Something happened with my list. I see that Monarch of Monsters only has yours and Lewian's votes for 27 points. And it was 4th on my list (counting PA only) for the 16 points to get it to 43. It's no longer on my list.

Thanks for compiling the list as usual, and of course for the excellent poll infrastructure!
Shocked But last I checked, Monarch Of Monsters had garnered 43 points; how did it drop so suddenly?

^ Fixed it! You had the release at #35, so it did not affect the outcome of the poll Smile

^ I think I remember that we had an issue with this release, there were duplicate entries. It's possible that I failed to preserve your list entry when I fixed that (by deleting the duplicates). I'll try to prevent these issues in the future by making sure that when I delete a duplicate, poll list entries, ratings, tags and reviews are automatically moved to the remaining entry.

^That's strange. I thought I had the Fractal Sextet on my list but I just checked and it's not there. I don't remember where exactly I had them.

It's at position 63 in the PA list.

Easiest to find at #9 when filtering for RIO/Avant:

Indeed, I thought opening up the Site polls to all members would greatly increase the number of participants (which it did the first year), but apparently it's a short-fueled fire.

Mike, I can't help but wonder how many others gave points to Fractal Sextet's Sky Full Of Hope?
Coz I didn't see it listed anywhere.

^ I think that one reason for the lower participation is that 2024 is generally perceived as a much "smaller" year than 2023.

About the PA/non-PA distinction: Yes, it's on the release level. This can even retroactively "change" the poll results, so if that Holy Family album was to be added today at PA and linked to its AP entry, it would move to the PA section.

Small remark: The Holy Family is listed here under non-PA, but they are on PA. However apparently nobody inserted the album in time. (Yeah, neither did I...Ouch but then I didn't like it that much to be honest, after having been a big fan of 2023s Go Zero.)

The more who participate, and the more who listen to a host of albums more than once, the better the results and exercise, methinks. Hopefully despite the decline in the forum, more will get used to adding to the list throughout the year and we will have a greater percentage of forum users presenting lists.

This is my top 40. I don't take the order that seriously on the whole and I would say that despite very much liking various albums, based on my limited listening it is not a particularly remarkable year overall. Mind you, I have not of course heard the vast majority of albums from 2024 and I expect to hear many more from this year in later years that I will love and to find some fresh musical avenues to plough. Various of these need more spins to properly assess.

1. Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown [AP Prog-Adj]
2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "No Title as of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead"
3. The Smile - Wall of Eyes
4. Tapir! - The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain [AP Prog]
5. Julia Holter - Something in the Room She Moves [AP Non-Prog]
6. 김반월키 - 빈자리 (Binjari) [AP Prog]
7. St. Vincent - All Born Screaming [AP Prog]
8. The Smile - Cutouts
9. samlrc - A Lonely Sinner [AP Prog]
10. Tigran Hamasyan - The Bird Of A Thousand Voices
11. Mount Eerie - Night Palace [AP Prog]
12. Mount Kimbie - The Sunset Violent [AP Non-Prog]
13. Xiu Xiu - 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto With Bison Horn Grips [AP Non-Prog]

15. Drew McDowall - A Thread, Silvered and Trembling [AP Prog]

Must have been a great year, for Believe's Wyrding Way to be the last ("worst") one in the "neo-prog" category.

Good job, Mike. Love being able to see what is liked both in PA and not in PA.

I have been thinking that the more we rather naturally incorporate the lists made there into topics made here might bring on more forum regulars, especially various of the kind who are really into the Top 10s and Lists and Polls topics. Today I have put together a 2021 list at AP and will incorporate that into a poll.

I understand that various people don't like to rank their favourites and that various people do not seek out contemporary music. I still love to discover new-to-me music of many decades.

Anyway, excellent job. It's a shame that this forum is not so active as it used to be. Used to be a lot more active discussion/ dialogue/ conversation. Feeling like I know need to start trying to have more face-to-face conversations to get my fix. The horror, the horror.

I feel that the software you've written has really elevated these lists, Mike. It's nice to see all the data collated so nicely and interactively. Too bad that the overall participation in this corner of the internet seems to be shrinking. I hope we see a resurgence, especially with the existence of the two non-prog lists you posted. Seeing albums with only one vote in those lists isn't super interesting compared to the prog list, but if we had higher participation, I think the variety really makes this list quite a bit more interesting to explore, both what's going on of interest within the genre and outside its box.

Very interesting results. Opeth only at 7 was maybe not expected. I personally couldn't get into that or the SGM album. BBT's album was okay and nice to see it supported. Expected Geordie Greep to get more votes but didn't seem to go down as well as the last Black Midi album. Beardfish's album has generally been praised everywhere and by everyone on the yt channels that I watch but although it was well supported it was never a contender just scraping into the top ten.

I do enjoy using Mike's site and have been busy creating lists for the years 1965 - 1979 as well as a few other random years (not many bands on the first 2 lol). Good fun!
Early prediction for 2025 - IQ v Steven Wilson v Echolyn (TSR ii). Will Dream Theater have a decent showing in the vote. Doesn't seem to have happened for a long while.
