As tame as the original

The Final Countdown

This makes me smile, though! You have to start somewhere.

I love the Japanese psychedelic rock/ psych folk band Ghost, but the Swedish Hard Rock, AOR, Heavy Metal band Ghost is out of my comfort zone.

So tempted to do a Ghost vs. Ghost topic, but I shall resist.

Welcome to the forum, nice to have you here. :)

My late friend, John Goodsall (Brand X etc.), did a nice cover of King Crimson's "Red"!  RIP Johnny, we miss you!

Santana had a knack for that too - making songs sound like their own and improving on the original IMO - in particular 'Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen', 'She's Not There', and possibly also 'Going Home'.
Is it any wonder that the monkey's confused?

^Yeah. The NIN cover of "Get Down Make Love" makes me wonder if Queen were still around, whether they would cover "Closer" in return. Could you imagine Freddie Mercury belting out "I wanna f#ck you like an animal ... you get me closer to God"?

Anyway, here's the NIN cover of Queen.

Yes, that's really good, I have the 3CD pack of BC&SL. The Iron Maiden cover is great too and also kudos for not butchering that Queen song. Most Queen covers suck, the good ones are really rare. Smile

hi,

MM always did someone that he thought had better lyrics, or was an important writer.

Bob Dylan was his favorite in every album. The Bruce stood up for one album, and it was a better version than the original. And then he did Mike Heron. And I think he went back to Bob Dylan ... honestly, these are the best and most "caring" of just about any covers ... some of them beautifully done.

Bob Dylan certainly has his followers ... Sandy Denny was a huge fan and did many of his songs. And even Brian Ferry did the same.

Hi,

I think I'm going back to The Portsmouth Sinfonia!

On second thought, I'm going to play Seasonings 1/2 TSP by PDQ Bach.

Some of the stuff here is not ... nice ... one listen to Stackridge doing the Beatles ... and at least you can say ... that's good! Progressive, or BS or not!

I have cheched out various music and found some really wonderful to my tastes music.

Here is "Igor Krutogolov's Toy Orchestra plays live "A Little God In My Hands" by SWANS"

I won't say that I prefer it to the Swans original, but it is fun.

And I really like this cover of Swans' "Killing for Company" (a fave of mine by Swans) by synth and dream poppy-band Tempers. I like how different it sounds.

Toronto's hard-rock outfit with a female lead, Blood Ceremony, totally nailed their rendition of Jethro Tull's 'New Day Yesterday.' This cover found its place on the V/A compilation album, 'Something in the Water,' which dropped in 2013 through Rise Above Records and Record Collector Magazine; the album is packed with some rare tracks and features beautiful artwork by renowned NYC illustrator Arik Roper.

A ghostfolky version of "Moonchild" by Marissa Nadler. Perfect whenever you're not in the mood for those six minutes of (very pretty) noodling
