Agreed, on both points. Though I pretty much never listen to Tarkus’s second side, while I actually enjoy all the songs on 2112’s second song. They’re not as good as 2112 itself, but I do think they are somewhat unfairly compared against it. In terms of other Rush album, those second side songs are better than an awful lot of Rush’s discography.... 😳

That’s what I came down to, for me, as well. Despite my having argued why I think 2112 is a great song earlier I’m this thread, 2112 is very far from being my favourite 1976 album. But it’s daily my favourite from those listed here, so..... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't forget the "song" 2112 is really a number of quite separate tracks strung together.

So is Supper’s Ready, and many others. So long as they are strung together well, it’s fine with me. There are some epic tracks that were written as one track which are good, and some which are not. There are some epic tracks that were strung together from separate track which are good, and some which are not.

2112 is probably my favourite Rush song. I love the separate sections, and how well they are put together. The overture does just what an overture should do (often bands title a track or passage as an overture when it’s no such thing), and the sections which follow tell the story more overtly, concisely and recognisably than many concept driven epics - both through the music and the vocals.

I’m no great Rush fan, by any stretch of the imagination, but 2112 is definitely a great song.

Length of a song is meaningless, if the song doesn’t serve the length. There’s probably more long songs that I think are needlessly long, but 2112 for me is one of the few that gets it just right.

When I think 1976,  2112 is the first album that comes to mind.

Hate to be so obvious, but Trick for me.

Never been a fan of Camel, Kansas is such a great album hard not to chose that one. Trick is too easy of a pick, agree it is amazing and one of my favs for Genesis.
I pick 2112 just for the fact it could have been their swan song (album), luckily for the music world it was not.

Never gotten the love for 2112. Is it that prog lovers love anything over 10 minutes? ATOTT rivals Foxtrot and SEBTP for the best Genesis album.
