HEAVEN 17 Named after the fictitious group mentioned in A Clockwork Orange, Heaven 17 are the fourth-most-famous Synth-Pop band from Sheffield, formed by ex-Human League members Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh and led by blonde frontman Glenn Gregory, the same production trio who brought us B.E.F. (British Electric Foundation), featured here earlier. Heaven 17's first single "(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang" caused a minor controversy by being banned by the BBC, but unlike Frankie Goes to Hollywood, it didn't help their record sales, stalling at #45 after spending five weeks in the charts, so maybe it just wasn't controversial enough. Heaven 17's best-selling single "Temptation" was kept from reaching the #1 spot by David Bowie's best-selling single of all time: "Let's Dance". Well, if you're going to be outsold by anyone, then you may as well be beaten to the #1 spot by the best. 1981: Heaven 17 - Penthouse and Pavement - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lnsoF7ViLoH8FHNkUnrpidhAsExeuVPFQ 1983: Heaven 17 - The Luxury Gap - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mHm4-l5ZfUMGoAzpjkC_LVJ0Xu_T5XB5g 1984: Heaven 17 - How Men Are - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lOkeF1g8-eUS8L620FPwf27uV0dEeTAUQ 1986: Heaven 17 - Pleasure One - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lM6G9QlnsxrNtJ9IMHpgi9hjkn0cerBt4 1988: Heaven 17 - Teddy Bear, Duke & Psycho - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lHmxgTUS7d-9dK757CFmUIONM9rjFez84 1996: Heaven 17 - Bigger Than America - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_myiO5OpbG1aq1PE-4SnS2JdEcdPNw16O8 2005: Heaven 17 - Before After - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kQduCU7G-Z1jRi7WU8-4R5DzjQKiSdmjo 2008: Heaven 17 - Naked as Advertised - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lj-r3TEjJlwUb8-ecVN5IffKpH6axl1xM Heaven 17 - Don't Fear the Reaper (But fear inferior cover versions of a Blue Oyster Cult classic) Year Pos. HEARTBEAT Holier than Harry Secombe and no relation to Nick Berry, Heartbeat are Britain's premier pop evangelists and with four worshipful albums of danceable tunes, they preach the gospel according to Pete Waterman. PAUL HAIG A Scottish baritone singer who was previously in the short-lived New Wave outfit Josef K (Who remembers them now!??), an Indie band who never aimed to be commercially successful, which is just as well really. Paul Haig repeated that "success" as a solo artist by having one single storm into the charts at #74 before just as quickly being swept away from the charts forever just two weeks later. Such is the Rhythm of Life in the notoriously cutthroat music business, where there are more sharks and pirates lurking than in a Johnny Depp movie. 1983: Paul Haig - Rhythm of Life - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS4w473NE9U 1985: Paul Haig - The Warp of Pure Fun - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lyIqqlSbFyEm-rAzu4Ep8R_f4-YKdHS0E 1989: Paul Haig - Chain - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kWuHcI_DQjuvxDjZYyFtT7xwTOb5NBxzU 1992: Paul Haig - Cinematique - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l88rbzmbVvxJaFy4yFw9nP_hjkttB4V8Q 2007: Paul Haig - Electronik Audience - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nFVlJTEivEwcT22tYXERUUpiQtJ_dirIM 2008: Paul Haig - Go Out Tonight - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mK7J_9wvC77bScOv6fiSa2P3pU6WqTNmo 2009: Paul Haig - Relive - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb0dCSXIy3I2bP09l6_2bEba85cgIEXM4 2013: Paul Haig - Kube - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ksWud62A33hUYn5PbhuB6IOQyG62hAVFQ 2020: Paul Haig - The Wood - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB1X9qldKil6Fs8nkXldTdi_J2--FbrQK Year Pos. “I was a big early Genesis fan and I loved King Crimson." How Tears For Fears added prog to pop and ruled the 80s A shared love of Blue Oyster Cult, Genesis and King Crimson saw Tears For Fears become much more than an 80s pop band. Roland Orzabal is talking about his fondness for Genesis and King Crimson. “I was a big early Genesis fan – Foxtrot particularly. And Genesis Live was great. I loved King Crimson – especially Discipline, if you can call that prog? It depends what you define as prog. There used to be a lot of reverse snobbery – Genesis came from a public school so therefore they can’t be any good, they’re ‘not like us’. Okay, punk rock was a jolt and a Copernican inversion. We went from having long hair and playing eight-minute guitar solos in our teenage band to all of a sudden covering The Damned! Fashion is incredibly powerful in music, in the zeitgeist. You got to a certain point in the late 70s where you could not wear flares anymore. And my platform shoes had to go. It was horrendous!” |

^ I've never used cheapie earphones or doodles, whatever they are.
My sound system's okay. I'm just not a big fan of Frankie Goes to Hollywood that's all. The only Pleasuredome I've ever been in was at Blackpool's Pleasure Beach, but that's another story.

Hi, I love the Frankie Goes to Hollywood album ... the first side, non-stop is a wonderful massive play and you really have to have a LP and a great sound system to get the full pizzazz of that album. The side 2 of well known single hits is also nice ... but not really as good and strong as the side 1 of this album ... again ... loud and a good sound system ... you don't get the effect unless you have some $500 dollars earphones ... sadly all people use these days to hear most music is the cheapie earphones and doodles that you can stick in your ear ... those wiill never give you the "experience".

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
