Hi, Wow ... over Terje Rypdal? Even if Terje is linked to jazz a lot more than rock music, but he does have some rock stuff ... and one of the best "chamber music" things with an electric guitar along with David Darling!

Hi, Thanks, Was about to post those two ... the late Michael Karoli, amazing in anything that he could just fly off on, and not stop (Mother Sky is great example) ... and John Weinzierl, who really did some outstanding guitar work, specially in YETI (the title cut) where he just about sustains the "improvisation/meditation" all by himself! And even later there are some insanely beautiful things in "Lemmings", "Wolf City" and "Vive La Trance".

^ Anderson is great on bass as well (Stormwatch - esp. Dark Ages). Surprising he didn’t have a gold flute coz most everything he touched (at least in the 70’s) was gold.

Anderson's acoustic work at the start of Thick As A Brick and such of it throughout sells the song. It becomes a die-hard's only soft of thing without it (albeit a very good one). Beautiful stuff.

Martin Barre has been mentioned as underrated, but I would also suggest Ian Anderson's catchy but complex acoustic guitar arrangements that wind through almost all Tull albums. Honestly, I'd rather hear Anderson on acoustic than flute nearly every time.

Where I'm from Muse is often overlooked. Not that people don't know a song or two of theirs, but they don't recognize the name until you mention Madness or Uprising, and even then it's like a vague recollection like "oh yeah, I remember that song, it's pretty good." I guess around a prog forum Muse are pretty well known, but in my world they're really not that well known. But if we're talking about under-appreciated guitarists, I don't think Matt really gets his due credit most of the time, even online. Even where Muse are well recognized, I see most of the praise go to Chris Wolstenholme's bass or Matt's songwriting, but not very much to his guitar skills.

How is he overlooked? He's in one of the most famous, mainstream bands at the moment.
