Pick (Pique) Withers, originally from the Mellotron-fest band Spring, was the first drummer.
Also having Terry Williams from Man, afterwards. Hmmm, some Prog connections right there.

Definitely like them a lot...especially Making Movies and about half of the debut album.  When they broke it was cool that Knopfler had such a unique clean sound.  "The Man's Too Strong" off Brothers in Arms is a fantastic song...

One of the mainstream greats. Saw them twice in concert ; Brothers In Arms and On Every Street.
Again, kinda moved on from them but my sister has all their vinyls and I listen every so often - Love Over Gold is my pick.

Love DS... or most of it... not a fan of the poppy stuff like Twisting By The Pool, Solid Pop or Walk Of Life, but I'm a real fan of their more introspective stuff like Private Investigations, the flipside of BIA, etc... At their best, they were proggy

In terms of albums, it's Love Over Gold by a mile, than the debut (Gallery, Sultans, Knife, Waterline) and the flipside of Brothers In Arms.

Not big on Making Movies, though, but their weakest in their swan song (OES)

Good band, though they usually don't make me resonate. Nevertheless, Love over Gold is a masterpiece, one of my favourite non-prog (?) albums, and Brothers in Arms is another good one.

I really like them. Mark Knopfler is an exceptional guitar player. The first album is probably my favourite but Brothers in Arms is quite excellent too.
"Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar."
