Scorched Earth does it for me every time so will have to say Godbluff. Pawn Hearts is great of course but I don't get goose bumps as much listening to it as I do with Godbluff.

1- Pawn Hearts 2- Godbluff 3- Still Life
To be fair, I like Silent Corner more than any of them and that's very loosely technically a VDGG album.

They have a big 5, but my absolute favorite is Godbluff. It is really a tough choice. If I had to pick absolutely one favorite track, I may choose Man-Erg... but that can also change. They have so much great music at the absolute highest level. The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other H To He, Who Am The Only One Pawn Hearts Godbluff Still Life

Haven't listened to them all, but H to He has been my favorite so far.

Pawn Hearts or Vital. Vital very well might be my favorite album of all time. I don't think I've ever heard anything cooler than Ship of Fool's or Sci-Finance. The low rating on this site is an absolute travesty

Godbluff, due to "The Undercover Man" and "The Sleepwalkers".

Pawn Hearts, even though (and I'm painting a target on my back with this one) I think Plague is one of their weaker songs. To me, Lemmings and Man-Erg are the two best cuts they ever recorded, and that's enough to send the album to the top.
It is very close, though. Still Life, Godbluff, and H to He are all fantastic.

Still Life.
It contains with Childlike faith the most complete VDGG song, musically and lyrically. Prog for adult.

"Pawn Hearts" for me , but "Godbluff" is excellent as well. unlike most others I consider "World Record" to be better than "Still Life". I actually don't think they ever made any weak album though; all are at least 4 stars, even the first one.
Friede and I actually went through a VdGG marathon yesterday and listened to all 13 studio albums in succession and completeness; a 12 hour task. wow, what a ride!
their latest album "Do Not Disturb" is excellent, by the way. my favorite track is "(Oh No! I Must Have Said) Yes". the album is a strong competitor to their best material from the 70s

What a wonderful day that must have been! I so agree. There are no studio albums less than 4 stars and i finally got their lastest "Do Not Disturb" just a couple weeks ago and i totally agree that it is also excellent. One of my favorite bands. I can't name a favorite but i do find "Still Life" to be one of my least favorites.

How can there be even any debate? Lemmings, Man-Erg and A Plague of LightHouse Keepers? C'mon man, Pawn Hearts ranks among the top 10 albums of all time! The contributions by Robert Frip themselves make this album essential listening. I guess I'm becoming a musical snob because I know exactly what I like whilst so many are lost in the heavy pantheon of Prog Rock. To me there's litle to no middle ground...

Form their two three album runs (70-72 & 74-76), I tend to prefer the first one in either of their trilogies
The Least and Godbluff are their IMHO
H To He and Still Slife are second best
Pawn and World come in last (both of them have got one of their two longer tracks), though Pawn is defintely superior to World and is on par with H to He
