When building a big music collection I think there are two important things, catalog it and get good storage units.  This is over 3,000 CD titles.  The last doohickey is a digital music player and a portable stereo speaker.   Still testing out the speaker.  The digital music player leaves something to be desired with regard to the software, but I love the capacity and the screen which displays album cover art.

By the way, I hate those CD racks with the balls.  They are kind of disfunctional.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

^ it's really neat - it has white sliding doors which I removed in order to take the picture. It has room for 1000 CDs ... more than you'd think when looking at it.

^ I'm determined to *not* buy another shelf any time soon ... I'll definitely sell a bunch of albums in the near future. Rather than endlessly increasing the number of albums I'll try to increase the quality of the collection!

@andu: The shelf is to the left of my desktop ... the vinyls and the hi-fi system are to the right. Picture will follow!Smile

however, I think you're going to either need another shelf soon, or bung some stuff on ebay.... these days, I tend to choose the latter route...Disapprove

But vertical racks with slots are annoying when you're buying new CD's often. Then you have to move alot of them one slot further.

But it looks cool having a couple of racks put together, or on top of eachother.
Might do that myself.

Well most pop bands do focus on songs as individuals, it's mainly only jazz, prog, and some rock that puts a lot of effort into the whole. Of course, there's exceptions coming out the ying yang, and anyone can debate that to hell...

Actually, i consider The Joshua Tree to be a truly great album, five star material (except it isn't prog, of course..), but the problem i have with U2 is that, despite the fact that all their songs sound exactly the same, most albums are terribly uneven. Joshua tree is the only album that i like in it's entirety, while the rest are mostly 50% hit and 50% miss.
So i like them a lot, but here on the archives they get a lot of flak for some reason.. maybe it's Bono. :)

That was one of the first Cds I ever got, before I started collecting prog Cds. Actually, the case is completely  broken, and the CD is quite scratched, I think. And yes, I have all of U2's albums on my computer, including Joshua Tree (my sort-of nickname). And what's wrong with U2? Of course, they're nobody's favourite band, but they're not at all bad.

Is that U2's latest album i see on the fifth floor? Nah, don't worry, everybody likes U2, they just don't want to admit it. :) Do you have Joshua tree as well?
