Something I forgot about...
Whilst chatting to Alain Lebon of Soleil Zeuhl at the RIO festival, I asked about the 'unreleased' fourth Eider Stellaire album. He had not heared of any unreleased material and suggested it was probably recorded rehersals - the two tracks are just extended versions of tracks on the first album, so i think he was probably right...
He mentioned there is a slight possibility of a second release of Archaia, and also said that Dun - Eros, Potemkine - Triton and Eskaton - Adeur were shortly to be out of print ! He had brought all the copies he had left to the festival and said the masters had been lost making any later reissues unlikely!
![]() I forgot to ask him about that one unheared of band that appeared on that compilation - what was the name? Ehovhe?
Also, he gave me a promotinal copy of Mix City -On Track from his label... This may be a further example of "Lounge Zeuhl" ! Edited by Unbeliever - May 13 2007 at 02:20 |

This was unbeknownance [I'm sure this isn't a word] to me, which label is looking at doing this? I know there was fleeting glimpse of Soliel Zeuhl reissuing Archaia, I'm sure if me rallied hard enough we could get somewhere. I'm highly doubting we will ever see reissues of the Eider Stellaire albums [unless there is a radical change in heart]. |

Good call, can't believe I missed it.
First of all, Martin, listen to Adam and James, both have very good suggestions.
If you go for PSEU (which is a good idea) then I guess UPPSALA and even WEIDORJE will be good ideas (though I am not sure about the "doomy" aspect of those two, but it still very good music).
ARCHAÏA might also please him, that's right. I personally don't like it much, but it answer the demands set.
KULTIVATOR is also a good place to look into and they should receive a reissue this year, of their only album.
There is another band, called YETI which is a weird mix of metal, and avant which includes some Zeuhlish characteristics in their Volume, Obliteration, Transcendence. It can be heavy at times (not metal heavy, but heavy, and somewhat depressive mood) which might answer your demands, though sample it first.
Another one is XAAL which of their two releases, I'd go for Seconde Ere.
Oh and Martin, on another note, have you tried PANZERPAPPA? Their two last (which are now the only two available) are great and accessible prog with some influences of UZ, SMM and other greats of the genre. Just listen to the bass and rhythm in the second track,Koralrevens Klagesang II , on Koralrevens Klagesang.

Besides the aforemention bands, a few more to add to the list.
Pseu brought out s/t album in 2004, which is stunning. Very much along the lines of the 4 Visions. The album was orginally recorded between 1979 and 1982. If you want dark minimal kraut-esque Zeuhl, you will love Archaia [unfortunately OPP at the moment]. Have a read of Rocktopus's review: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=101439 Also sometime considered Zeuhl are the recent UK band Guapo, dark brooding with almost post rock cressendos [with a lot more power] |

Shub Niggurath - La Mort Vont Vites
That's a very gloomy zeuhl album indeed! Also check out their later albums. Also try some non-zeuhl RIO, like Univers Zero - 1313 or Heresie and Present - Triskaidékaphobie and Le Poison Qui Rend Fou. Coincidently, "Triskaidekaphobia" is actually the fear of the number 13. Is it also a coincidence that UZ's debut was called 1313? Maybe Present were saying fear 1313 and listen to Triskaidékaphobie instead. ![]() Unlikely, I know... Off the top of my head I got to think of EIDER STELLAIRE but it's out of print and the albums have leaked throughout the net.
Any of their 3 released albums (there's a 4th unreleased) is very good, all of almost equal qaulity (to me that is).
There's probably more that I am not thinking of right now... This is why we have Adam.

Hey sorry for the sort of off topic comment but what are the "doomiest" Zeuhl albums. I've actually only heard 4 Visions by Eskaton and 1001 Degrees Centigrades by Magma. I love that second track on 4 Visions with the minimal, foreboding, doomy bass riff! What albums/bands are equally mind blowing in that way?
Cheers!

Aside from KOENJIHYAKKEI (try Angherr Shisspa it's great) which sound like Magma Zeuhl, there are others which combine it into their overall avant-garde sound, like HAPPY FAMILY (influenced by several sources including UZ which have been affiliated and influenced by the Zeuhl scene as well as other scenes; try both of their albums), BONDAGE FRUIT (all of theirs are probably good, I only have two which I love - Bondage Fruit IV and Bondage Fruit V - Skin).
You might also like the improvisational album by DAIMONJI appropriately called Improg.
Also, check out this website:

Can someone here recommend me some Japanese zeuhl? I like several bands of the French scene, and I just got Burning Stone and Graviyaunosch by Ruins and I am starting to enjoy both albums.

It's a pretty good album, but the sound quality isn't great - it sounds like a cleaned up bootleg. The extended De Futura rocks.

SOFT MOUNTAIN is very good. A cool collaboration between Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean, Yoshida Tatsuya and Hoppy Kamiyama.
May remind of the Soft's 70's work at times.

I've read his website/blog, and didn't see anything that says it (97% of it is "?" so..) But it wouldn't be shocking if he is, seeing how he and Yoshida just released an album together (Soft mountain.. Havn't heard it myself yet, but it looks good) I personally would like to see Aki Kubota come back! She play'd live with them not to long ago(if i remember correctly) ! ! |

You can find the curiosity items here, and here... (FYI, De Futura is in the second part, as you can predict
![]() For all who are interested in Jannick Top's label and the Vander Top (and related) releases, including the Utopic Sporadic Orchestra (that seems to be where the label's name comes from...), you can see the entire discography here and here... (You can also see the album covers with links on the Utopic Records frontpage, but thumbnails are quite small)

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!) |

At first the Univeria Zekt album was rightfully listed under Magma discography. But then for some reason (the same reason for having a seperate entry for Organisation than Kraftwerk) they opened a different account for the same band
![]() The most important solo artist from Magma would obviously be Christian Vander, and at least part of his solo stuff (i.e. Wurdah Itah, which he himself referenced as a Magma album, and Offering projects, which are dubious as to who to be credited...) are already here... As far as I know from related sites, his other stuff has little to do with prog-rock, let alone zeuhl... They are mostly free for jazz improvisations.
Speaking of Utopic records, another Magma side project, Utopic Sporadic Orchestra has a live album full of Magma stuff (and full of Magma members, of course!), including two versions of the mid-'70's epic De Futura (originally appearing in '76's Üdü Wüdü album). Does someone think of adding the album somewhere
