I'm a headbanger alright, but I'm aware the Frisco band ain't got nothing to do in the depths of the Archives, that's for sure.

^ I'd recommend Solitude • Dominance • Tragedy (1999)and The Dark Discovery (1998)instead... (hope you don't mind)

Oh my - Monday Morning Apocalypse was my first meeting with Evergrey, and one of the first CDs I reviewed when I started writing for prog4you a couple of years ago.
Somehow I was never tempted to check out any of their other stuff after going through that particular artistic doomsday...

I really like Evergrey, but you have to admit that their music has been getting less progressive with each release ... Torn and Monday Morning Apocalypse are only a shadow of their former music, as far as the progressiveness is concerned. Mind you: That doesn't necessarily mean that the new albums are bad ... there is not fixed relationship between progressiveness and quality, at least not for me.
Why not some more praise for the likes of David Bowie? and yet you get some guys who try to get the likes of Metallica in here without inclusion of more deserving bands.
|
Bowie was added months before Metallica ... what's your point?
The Beatles???????????????????????? FFS! and metallica wish they were prog! not to say they are bad...but come on lets try exclude the popular bullSh** just because you love 'em.
|
Metallica were not excactly a popular band during the 80s ... of course they were praised in metal magazines, but their mainstream popularity essentially began with the Black Album. In any case, popularity or personal preference has nothing to do with whether their music contained progressive elements or not. However, popularity and personal preference may help to speed up the addition process, because it simply means that the band gets suggested more often and it is more likely that those who make the decision have access to the music and know it well enough.
*sigh....total lack of what to say here :( feelings beyond words.
However to all who agree with this sentiment I give you my utmost respect. Peace :) |
And all others can go to hell? Why are you so angry?

^ I probably should let your last post go but I won't-- Insulting young people? Not understanding why the Beatles are here and then screaming about it? We should get our heads out of our asses? No, no, no, that won't do at all.

Hi there, well I haven't been on these forums for a loong while after my last flaming of the general opinion here.
I don't intend on being the odd one out, the forum troll. My only gripe here is that from the stories I hear from a once respected and regular forum member...I am sadly disappointed in the general taste in progressive music on these forums.
My advice to all the 13 to 14 year olds who don't know what the F*** you are talking about with regards to progressive music....grow up a little and understand what prog music is all about please!
The exclusion of bands such as Stratovarius and the flaming of an awesome Evergrey album...I really think some of you need to get your heads straight.

There are definitely prog rumblings in the shoegaze scene. The previously-mentioned bastion of shoegaze in My Bloody Valentine, and then the more progressive-minded ones like Slowdive or Auburn Lull. Gregor Samsa fits in better as shoegaze rather than post-rock, IMHO.

Sonic Youth have come up for discussion in the past - maybe it's worth a new thread?

Actually , no one can't deny Metallica's influence in prog metal with their early albums they really made Metal progress. However , what's bad about this inclusion is that now you can consider lots of bands to be progrelated example , To me Stratovarius and Sonic Youth are way more prog related than Metallica.
What about the Shoegaze scene? Kevin Shields exprimentation with loveless is at least worth of the prog related label. Moreover , I see Krautrock influences on that bands.

Guns don't kill people, cats with guns kill people. Disturbing pic. My five year year old daughter was scared of it (and cats are her favourite animal). Oh, well, can't expect a site like this to be child friendly. Incidentally, not here, but I used to apologetically multinick all the time (though for different, creative-writing reasons).
