Actually, I was the one who mentioned bootlegs first, so I apologize for that. I hope we have not encouraged anyone to seek these out on line or elsewhere (but in the days before MP3's, bootlegs were generally circulated by fans who owned all official releases and wanted more but were not being offered it by the bands and record companies........I'm sure there were people who just wanted free stuff as well though). |

To which I would add the encore (Echoes) from that 1974 concert mentioned above - might as well have the entire set, eh?

The World Tour '74 live discs are a treasure that I'm so pleased have been given an official release. The non-orchestral live versions of AHM and the lengthy live versions of Embryo are others I would love to see given an official release.

I apologise for raising the topic of bootlegs. As a disclaimer let me point out that I haven't mentioned any specific bootlegs, just a general reference to 1969-1971 One the other hand, of course - thanks to the bonus discs on the recent reissues of DSOTM, WYWH, & The Wall - there are a few ex-bootlegs that have become official releases. Which do you prefer? The Wall demos, or the 1974 live discs included with DSOTM or WYWH?
Furthermore - who's got the massive multi-disc boxsets and can you please advise if they're worth the money?

Dean, I was under the impression the full that all the tracks recorded at the Zabriskie Point sessions were now on the new double cd version of the soundtrack? Quite a lot of unreleased gems on there, bloody good it is too. Correct me if I'm wrong though. |

Well, if the band were to release some of those shows I would be perfectly happy and would buy them, and I wouldn't have to wonder how to get some bootlegs. I have bought just about everything that's available from them, so I wouldn't really be doing any harm to the industry.

Jesus Christ! talking about bootlegs isn't illegal. are any of those 'extras' from the immersion remasters any good? also, the great lost floyd album... David Gilmour. so damn good.

Can I remind everyone that discussing bootlegs is technically against forum rules. (5. No Illegal activities) - and that includes recordings of the full Zabriskie Point soundtrack sessions.

The Paris Theater bootlegs from 1971 are by far their best in my eyes. |
||||
I consider drone metal to be progressive...

I am 14 years old, and started listening to prog at 13 years old(really young) Well I started to listen to prog with Pink Floyd, I think that the first song Iv'e ever heard of them was "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" not too "proggy" but it made me into the band itself, and when I first listened to "The Narrow Way" I started listening to it again and again, I hadn't noticed as a full night past :) , and I still had to go to school after that, in the bus I was listening to it again, After Pink Floyd I heard "Funny Ways" by "Gentle Giant" and that was when I really started to try and get to know a lot of progressive bands, especially progressive rock.

They're mostly from 1969-1971.

I agree, my top 10 favourite Floyd albums are all bootlegs.

While Final Cut is not my favorite, I like it much better than The Wall, so I'm with you there. My desert island Floyd would probably be Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, and that Animals tour bootleg I used to have of the one show where they included a third encore of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene (which they hadn't played in more than 5 years, and was only played at that one show on that tour). Actually, I wish I still had several bootlegs from back in my Floyd fanatic days, as a lot of that stuff was amazing and better than the albums. Edited by infandous - February 21 2013 at 14:43 |

i like Division Bell much better than Momentary Lapse. The latter is kind of a half album. Terminal Frost is just lazy as is the intro and Dogs of War. Division Bell is full of great songs and solos....even if a bit derivative of previous efforts. Final Cut beats the all though!

Oh come on, I'm just trying to be funny (and failing). Obviously, we have different tastes, which is of course the root of all arguments in prog land. |
