Oh, and to go back on-topic: I might be able to pick up the shelf I've been wanting next weekend, so stay tuned for the first collection pic fro me. It's going to look pitiful simply because of the size of the shelving itself, but oh well, one must start somewhere, no?

Seriousely, though . . . I absolutely cherish my phyiscial albums that I own for the features mentioned above, but when it comes to listening to an album in the car, I hardly think the sound quality is going to matter, due to the road noise and all. This has led me to consider putting all of my music on a zune and just taking that into the car with me and plugging it into the sterio. It's better than hauling around all of my prog albums in a CD wallet, which I soon will be unable to do due to the sheer number of prog albums I now own.

What do you guys think? Would a zune or ipod or otherwise well-made mp3 storage device/player be a good investment? I only ask because I've never owned one before and don't know whether all the hype is to be believed or not.

I do fear that the holographic jewel cases will be even easier to break accidentally than the current plastic ones.  Cry

Speaking as someone who started collecting in the LP age and is thrilled with my latest digital music player, I can't wait to see where the mediums for music will go in the future...

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

This is what I am aiming for in terms of shevling. What do you guys think? The pic is small, but it can hold well over a thousand single jewelcases.

Is that Simon Rattle on the spine of "Good Classical CD Guide 2004"? His classical CDs are excellent. His version of Holst's Planets is absolutely stellar.

Those are some great looking shelves man! You said you built those, right?
But your room looks like a dungeon, is there a window hiding somewhere?
