I'd toss in some SRC from Detroit too...but they were more psych than hard rock. Love that High Tide "sea shanties" album too, but more psych than hard rock.
Honourable mention should go to The Stooges - "Fun House"

Nice to see someone mention Nantucket Sleighride. What with Felix hanging around, it occasionally just touches the borders of prog.

DIO WASN'T LITTLE!!!
He was just a bit below the average size (and he was a better singer than 90% of any rock singer). |

I'm a "Crosscut Saw" and "Black Diamond" man myself ... but it should be noted that it was Toni's version of "Amazing Grace" that got Jimi to do another anthem a couple of weeks later!

Hi,
Hawkwind - Space Ritual (bring your Michael Moorcock!)
Gong - Floating Anarchy (specially side 2 with Ali Baba!)
Hawkwind - Electric Tepee (with its slight Ambient Rave Rip!)
Amon Duul 2 - Yeti (don't forget the sandoz!)
Nektar - Recycled (total non stop stomp)

Yet more classic recommendations - I'd completely forgotten The Groundhogs' 'Split' & as for Spooky Tooth, (their version of 'I Am The Walrus' is a stunner )

Spooky Tooth's Spooky Two would have to rank right up there. There's guitars and Hammonds growling up out of the belly of that beast. Evil Woman has probably my second favorite rock guitar solo of all time.

1. Fireball - Deep Purple
2. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
3. II - Led Zeppelin
Yeah, I know too classic and obvious, okay here are some others which I wouldn't consider one of the best, but still are great:
Medusa - Trapeze
Fly by Night - Rush
Ready 'n Willing - Whitesnake (though maybe it's more blues rock.. )
High Voltage - Ac/Dc
Look at Yourself - Uriah Heep
Never Turn Your Back on a Friend - Budgie
Hair of the Dog - Nazareth Edited by The Quiet One - August 18 2010 at 17:15 |
