For the first time in their illustrious careers, Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman have collaborated to release an album as a duo ("THE LIVING TREE").

I recently had the opportunity to discuss the new album with Jon as well as his 2011 USA tour plans, the soon-to-be-released DVD of his concert performance with the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and (of course!) his thoughts on life, love and the universe.  :-)

Included in the interview:

  • How the ABWH song "The Meeting" served as a logical precursor to the the highly personal, meditative, reflective songs which emerged during their work on "THE LIVING TREE".
  • Jon compares the process of working with Rick Wakeman on "THE LIVING TREE" to that of working with Vangelis back in the 70's!
  • He even hearkens back to the "classic Yes" era to discuss the meaning of the lyrics to "LONG DISTANCE RUNAROUND"!

Hear the interview (and music from the brand new album) this Friday night (1/28/2011) at 9:30 PM Eastern time on ProgPositivity Radio.

Pre-show Jon Anderson music starts at 9:00, with the interview beginning at the bottom-of-the-hour running until just a little after 10:00 p.m.

Evening of Music and Discussion with Jon Anderson Part Four

Jon says we live in an over-energized advertising world which distracts us from
love and from spiritual matters... "and it's totally wrong of course, it's just
to sell stuff. Pretty soon you just have to sing about it!"

Who is Jon's favorite cricket from youth?

Evening of Music and Discussion with Jon Anderson Part Five

Changing our thoughts on war. It has become a very big Bu$ine$$.

Evening of Music and Discussion with Jon Anderson Part Six

Some of Jon's lyrics may have given us a "LONG DISTANCE RUNAROUND" in the 70's,
but lately, the meaning has tended to come out of the song and just STAND THERE!

"It's dangerous to go out and say stuff on-stage in front of thousands of
people. You want to try and do it in a delicate way…"

"Hey, I'm in my 60's. I'll say what I want to say how I want to say it - and
I'll do it with as much artistic poetry as I can. "

Evening of Music and Discussion with Jon Anderson Part Seven

Jon talks about touring with Wakey and his FAVORITE song from THE LIVING TREE!

"The funny thing with Rick is - once you start talking about a song, he'll
always come in with a joke about it…!"

Evening of Music and Discussion with Jon Anderson Part Eight

Jon shares how exciting it was to perform with the teenagers of the Cleveland
Contemporary Youth Orchestra and the schedule for the release of the upcoming
DVD of the concert.

"I got carried away at times… Some days you can say how you feel deep inside…
you hope it comes through with honesty and hope for the future… It comes from a
good place."

Interesting album and way different than I would have thought - but so wonderful that Wakeman and Anderson collaborated on this.
