Excellent review - I spent a couple of years in Nagoya myself not so long ago, so I recognise your description of trying to find Japanese underground live houses very well. I'd sworn off the demon rum by the time I hit Japan, but I remember the effect of Shouchu on my partner, not to mention Chou Hai ('I don't think there's any alcohol in this' she said. famous last words...).

He played in London not long after the Japanese New Music Festival and his band featured Kawabata Makoto and Charles Hayward - and I missed it !

'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

Robert Wyatt, Gloria Gloom
