Hah - you give someone the benefit of the doubt and you find out that they really were that stupid after all.

Maybe you should have stopped to wonder why a senior member would respond in such a way rather than responding in kind - do two wrongs make a right?

Analysis of the addition?

I must have missed that!

"Obscenely retarted" is not analysis, BTW, it's an insult to the many people responsible for the addition, who thought it through intelligently and very carefully, via lengthy and open, public discussion threads on this forum - the decision was not made lightly or frivolously.

See above - the decision was made after a quite inordinate length of time by many people, because ther reasoning in support of the addition is incontrovertible, while the reasoning against the addition boils down to "Obscenely retarted".

I'll take strong reasoning over "bleh" any day - don't know about you.

Maybe you should take a quick look at your own actions - and think a bit before you post.

Hughes is an experienced member, and knows a huge amount about Progressive Metal, as does MikeEnRegalia and The T, who are all supporters of this addition.

I think you should let this pass, and think about why you hold the opinion you do (to which no-one can deny you're entitled), and maybe analyse the music and consider why you think it's not Progressive.

Welcome to ProgArchives, where we really enjoy intelligent music - as well as less intelligent flame wars Embarrassed

You are absolutely correct - this site is about the music, not the number of posts - but think of it as a small city, with thousands of people all living in it, sharing their musical passions.

No-one is going to agree with everything everyone else thinks - and that's cool, as it provokes discussions.

But people who have been here a long time make friends and gain reputations - and it is this that gives them a kind of seniority, especially if, like the people I mentioned, their contributions are thoughtful, thought-provoking and intelligent.

We don't know what you know, and you don't know what we know - as a newbie, I'd recommend lurking, voting in polls, writing reviews and getting yourself known before demanding respect - which is something you earn. Anywhere.

I look forward to reading your reviews Big smile

Cert your response is a model of response to prevent flame wars.
Wink

Guys, he's been banned, as you can see from his profile (not going to divulge the details though)... It seems controversial additions always bring the trolls out of the woodwork, and this is why it is important to disagree in a respectful, civilized manner. As for me, I have no time for those "the sky is falling" types... Life is way too short to get upset about the presence of Band X or Y on a website!Wink

Guns don't kill people, cats with guns kill people.  Disturbing pic.  My five year year old daughter was scared of it (and cats are her favourite animal).  Oh, well, can't expect a site like this to be child friendly.

Incidentally, not here, but I used to apologetically multinick all the time (though for different, creative-writing reasons).

Actually , no one can't deny Metallica's influence in prog metal with their early albums they really made Metal progress. However , what's bad about this inclusion is that now you can consider lots of bands to be progrelated example , To me Stratovarius and Sonic Youth are way more prog related than Metallica.

What about the Shoegaze scene? Kevin Shields exprimentation with loveless is at least worth of the prog related label. Moreover , I see Krautrock influences on that bands.

I definitely wouldn't mind Sonic Youth and shoegaze being here!! I'd actually have something to do other than troll and make smart-aleck comments.

I might actually... like this site... again...!

Sonic Youth have come up for discussion in the past - maybe it's worth a new thread?

There are definitely prog rumblings in the shoegaze scene. The previously-mentioned bastion of shoegaze in My Bloody Valentine, and then the more progressive-minded ones like Slowdive or Auburn Lull. Gregor Samsa fits in better as shoegaze rather than post-rock, IMHO.

Hi there, well I haven't been on these forums for a loong while after my last flaming of the general opinion here.

I don't intend on being the odd one out, the forum troll.  My only gripe here is that from the stories I hear from a once respected and regular forum member...I am sadly disappointed in the general taste in progressive music on these forums.

My advice to all the 13 to 14 year olds who don't know what the F*** you are talking about with regards to progressive music....grow up a little and understand what prog music is all about please!

The exclusion of bands such as Stratovarius and the flaming of an awesome Evergrey album...I really think some of you need to get your heads straight.

Why not some more praise for the likes of David Bowie?  and yet you get some guys who try to get the likes of Metallica in here without inclusion of more deserving bands.

The Beatles????????????????????????  FFS! and metallica wish they were prog! not to say they are bad...but come on lets try exclude the popular bullSh** just because you love 'em.

*sigh....total lack of what to say here :( feelings beyond words.

However to all who agree with this sentiment I give you my utmost respect.  Peace :)
