It is like the review of the George Michael gig in Austria'g biggest newspaper Kronen Zeitung in the Tuesday edition. Fantastic gig, their reviewer wrote in a one page feature. That reviewer was the only one in Austria who did not know that the gig had been cancelled some days before due to George Michael taking severe ill and cancelling all gigs. At least the review of his "gig" would had cheered him up a lot. |

If you're 100% sure without any evidence I hope for the defendan't sake, you ain't called for jury duty any time soon. I suspect you're correct here but we can't prove this and you know that. |

That's why I said 99.99999999999999%, there's always a chance that the guy is in fact an insane masochist that only buys albums he hates. Iván

Could you send a PM to him asking about the validity of his ratings? I sent one and I haven't received an answer. Really, I wouldn't listen to 2 albums by the same band if I thought both were complete rubbish; he seems to have heard 14 BC albums... And there's something weird 'bout this mate too: http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=33006 Rating an entire discography 1 star does not look legitimate at all. And if we can't prove anything then what is the purpose of this thread? Anyone who rated an album before its release, for example, could have received a promo copy.

^ I agree, why fling yer wonga at albums by artists you should know by the 2nd purchase just ain't for you? Of course it beggars belief and like yourself, I have never received any response from any 'ratings only reviewer' who behaves in a similar fashion. We can't ban people for being petty vindictive idiots/feckless fanboys without any substance.
One crumb of comfort we can take is that such 'ratings only' reviews have negligible effect on the overall rating of an album. (assuming sufficient weighted reviews are available to tip the scales back to normality) If I can determine from an official source the release date for an album and am satisfied that it cannot be purchased from another legit source e.g. at a gig or ordered as a pre-release special edition, I'll just delete ratings only reviews. This is becoming harder and harder to police effectively though as the recent Arena album The Seventh Degree of Separation showed (it was available from the record label's own website as a 'pre-release date' special edition - and if that ain't fleecing the fans credulity I can't think of a better example) If a written review appears before the official release date we strive to ensure that the reviewer indicates in the text the source of his review copy is a promo. And yes, this is a pain in the derričre and not always successful. |

^ for the same reason I can't delete any of your rating only reviews (I can't prove you haven't listened to the albums)

Why give the the guy the satisfaction of rattling his cage? He's obviously on a mission to drive down ratings of stuff he doesn't like. If he's really intent on it he will go out of his way to create alternate identities to put in more. Ignoring is bliss.
Just on a side note, I have noticed that people that are heavy into metal tend to be very dismissive of everything that isn't. "It's boring" etc. etc. Edited by Slartibartfast - November 30 2011 at 05:34 |

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

But I haven't given i star 0r 5 stars to a complete body of work by one artist or genre. It's kind of obvious the difference. And why do you need proof? The evidence is overwhelming enough. Seems straightforward to me. If he doesn't answer why would he care or know anyway? Why should someone carpet bomb PA with one star ratings for the hell of it and leave us with wringing hands deabating "proof" or his rights?? Bloody ludicrous.

Why make this a huge scandal, i trust PA readers to make the difference between a 1 star rating with 3 or 4 ratings and a 1 star rating with 30 ratings. One is more relevant than the other. Same thing with reviews, i need to see more reviews of a album before making up my mind.

This guy had two accounts, both of which were designated as active. However, he only ever used one of them for posting so I've deleted the 'blank' profile. I've also sent him a PM advising that attempting ratings manipulation using rating only reviews is utterly futile and that future occurrences will lead to disciplinary action (though these types never respond to such missives) I've deleted all the one star reviews for Bass Communion and 6LA8 accordingly. |
