I still don't have a few songs but it's hard the buy the Racket records edition for just a couple songs.

I remember when I first REALLY got into Marillion in 2004 and I bought the deluxe edition just on a whim. Now, this is the extra thick, beautifully packaged edition with all of the names of those who pre-ordered. It was around $42, but something just told me to buy it. Something happened with Royale Air and it took F-O-R-E-V-E-R to get here. It probably took a good 2 months to finally work out the snarls and arrive at my door. When I got it and popped it in, I knew it was something special.

I have both this expanded deluxe edition and the 2 CD jewel case edition for the car. I also made sure I pre-ordered Happiness Is The Road so to get my name printed in there. I bought the jewel case edition of Essence and The Hard Shoulder at the convention. God, I have a problem.

And one thing I REFUSE to do next time is download any MP3's of the new album by Marillion. I so wish I hadn't done it now because by the time the disc made it to my house, the newness had worn off and that child-like excitement was there like it was with Somewhere Else.

It simply wasn't worth it.

I've never bought MP3's - Probably never will... I prefer to pay for a physical product, not just data on a computer. I also prefer having it in higher sonic quality, and being able to use a disc.

Like Steven Wilson says:

"If I buy a piece of art, I want to display it on my wall, not as a F**ing J-PEG on my iPhone".

The band offered it as a free download with the option to 'donate'. I had already pre-ordered the disc, so knew I had the physical CD coming; however, I was just so anxious to hear it. Never again will I buckle.

Bad luck I guess - I find that if I order an album, and have to wait for it, I always enjoy it more when it finally arrives...

(Speaking of Which, last night I ordered Somewhere In London!)

Good pick up, my man. If you think about it, shell out the few extra dollars and download the audio files from their website. Really is good to have.

Excellent purchase, though.

I ordered the new Wishing Tree on Saturday or Sunday of last week and it arrived yesterday. Wasn't expecting it that quickly, but I'm not complaining. Big smile

Will this be your first Marillion DVD?

Yep, my first ever!

Well, apart from "Something Else", which I don't think really counts

Man, it's going to blow your head apart. Absolutely stellar DVD. See what you think and then go after Marbles On The Road.

This Strange Convention is pretty good, too. I've only watched it once, but they pack a lot in there. Just too bad Wish You Were Here is out of print.

Thanks, I think I'll get Marbles on the Road next...

The closest thing I've ever seen to Marillion live is videos on youtube, so I can hardly wait for this to arrive!

so I'm thinking of getting the new DVD  This Strange Convention from Racket.  I'm assuming it's the europe show as opposed to montreal which Edub saw.

Anyboby have this DVD yet?  I love This Strange Engine so getting it in it's entirety sounds good to me.

This Strange Convention is from the 2007 European convention. Of course, it's got This Strange Engine in its entirety, but also has the Friends and Family performances from the audio CD's. The Friends portion is all cover tunes (not a fan, but they do a great version of Crowded House's "She Goes On"), plus their rarities and b-sides ("Holloway Girl", "The Release", "I Will Walk On Water", etc.). The Family section is a set list hand picked by Marillion and is a collection of their favorite songs to play live. In my opinion, it's a great DVD. Anytime you get to witness a live version of "This Strange Engine" in any setting, it's worth getting.

Some consider this to be their best set list; however, I find night 2 from this past convention hard to beat (this will be released later on this year). Cannot wait until this comes out!

What surprised me about the Somwhere In London DVD was the performance of "The Release". Absolutely stunning version.

The additional performances ("Ocean Cloud" included) and the live gig at the Racket Club are also very cool. I'd love to take a tour of that place. I talked to a guy at the convention who doesn't live too far from it in Aylesbury. He's driven by, but has never been invited in.

Edub,  where can I can find the set list for the DVD from this year's convention which you said will be released later this year?   Unfortunately financial concerns may make me choose between them,  support the family you know.  My life can no longer revolve around prog.    Kenmar

Understandable. If you go to http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=57150 and scroll through my review, I give a set list from each night.
