3 stars 1989: ABC - Up - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lZIYypi1LGFZQj_BG-3W-NK_0jmjhz77o

Whereas we can all hope for One Better World, ABC were hoping for one better album, but they came Up with an album of House music instead. Confused

3 stars 1991: ABC - Abracadabra - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mfHgJUINJ_LksxLfCfsovkqop-zBnUGzI

As if by magic, ABC's sixth album appears, but founder member Mark White promptly disappears, saying "I've had enough of this" - meaning another ABC album full of House music dance grooves and techno sounds. Can't say I blame him for leaving. Stern Smile

4 stars 1997: ABC - Skyscraping - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nlzHNSZbY-KpVVXlCvOpfgz4FXiQUc-fE

Martin Fry had high hopes of success for ABC's seventh album - the first without founder member Mark White - but the album failed to climb the charts, somewhat ironically, although Stranger Things have happened. Geek

3 stars 2008: ABC - Traffic

The video for the very first single from ABC's eighth album features a man being grabbed by the hair and smothered by Diana Dors' ample assets. Some guys have all the luck. Tongue

Does anyone remember Belgian synth pop band 'Telex' from the late 70's?

This album has a cover of Bill Hayley's 'Rock Around The Clock', released as a single, it was a minor hit in the UK. I bought this in a record shop bargain bin back in the day, and I wish I still had it.Smile

Octopus, I do, I do ! :-)
They participated to the Eurovision song contest in 197? with a track called Eu-ro-vi-sion Eu-ro-vi-sion (french accent)
without success of course , humour is not the trademark of this insipid/boring/mercantile event

5 stars 2016: ABC - The Lexicon of Love II - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lx0Zvk9fYiNaRUxlPXYmW6EC5mHKHVmy8

Finally, 34 years and eight albums later, it's the fabulous follow-up to The Lexicon of Love album (as if you hadn't already guessed), which includes lush orchestration courtesy of Anne Dudley, who you may recall was a key member of Art of Noise, and purely by coincidence, they're coming up here next. Thumbs Up

Anyway, here's the list, only now it's a question of finding the time to feature all of these artists  (with their carefully coiffed perms) amongst the vast pantheon of prog. but When in Rome, as they say. Smile

ABC
The Blue Nile (suggested by Steve Wyzard - in place of Blancmange) Wink
China Crisis
Depeche Mode
Eurythmics
Flock of Seagulls
Goldfrapp
The Human League
The Icicle Works
Jon & Vangelis
Kissing the Pink
Landscape
Mirrors
Gary Numan (and Tubeway Army)
Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark
Pet Shop Boys
The Quick
Re-Flex
Soft Cell
Talk Talk (obviously!)
Ultravox
Visage
When in Rome
Yazoo

Love many songs / albums by the bands listed here. Here are a few not mentioned:

Simple Minds
New Order
Tears For Fears
Electric Light Orchestra
Strawberry Suicide
Duran Duran
Andy Oppenheimer
John Foxx (outside of Ultravox)
Naked Eyes
Bill Nelson's Red Noise
The Cure
Thomas Dolby
New Musik
Buggles
Erasure
Fad Gadget
Ladytron
Visage
The The
Scritti Politti
Kim Wilde
Art Of Noise
Virna Lindt
Anne Clark
Rupert Hine
Chris & Cosey
Heaven 17
Section 25
Howard Jones
Bronski Beat
Blancmange
Pete Shelley
Rexy
Thompson Twins
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Altered Images
Arcadia

Nobody wants PA to be an all music site. The site is unstable as is and it would require a paid staff to maintain.

Rate Your Music has filled that role better than this site could ever hope to accomplish.

If this was an all music site there would really be no need to come here any longer for myself at least :)

Synth-Pop Britannia

ALPINESTARS      Not a brand of sports safety equipment, but a little-known Synth-Pop duo from Manchester. Alpinestars launched their bid for pop stardom without a safety net, having decided to retain artistic control by not signing to a major label, which is why you've probably never heard of them before. Stern Smile

Year    Pos.   Weeks   (Complete UK hit singles)

2002     63        1        Alpinestars featuring Brian Molko - Carbon Kid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PifkisE7H2k

Pos. = Highest position in the UK charts.     Weeks = Number of weeks in the UK charts.
