They annoy me greatly too. But the question is do you watch them to see if they lose a packet or to get a feeling for just who the morons are who share this planet with us?
The only prog of this type that I used to watch is Grand Designs. At least the people weren't in it for the money. Edited by limeyrob - June 12 2009 at 12:56 |

GD was good years ago when it felt a little more "genuine" - not so sure any more - I get the feeling the drama is for the benefit of the camera "three months into the build and nothing's gone wrong yet, I fear he may be heading for an unforseen disaster" (quick, producer chappie - go and change that order of seasoned oak beams from metres to yards while I distract him with this cup of builder's tea) |

I'm a bit ambivalent about moving outside the M25, but I lived in the area (not Stortford itself) for a short while in the early 90s and rather liked it - London is still within easy striking distance and we're very close to the station.

I was in Hatfield Broad Oak for a while in the early 90s (house sitting) and came to like the general area a lot.

Je Je... I once had to cover a meeting of HBO Parish Council - enough to put you off journalism for life!

What a smashing day it has been. Just finished putting up some bird proofing to the strawberries. It looks like a good year for strawbs. Last two years were a bit of a disaster with all the rain we had. The strawbs then just turned to mush.
Oh - the beetroot is coming on nicely.

Mmm....I do love strawberries. My dad used to grow them when I was a kid, along with tomatoes, but it just hasn't happened the last few years. But you must be right, be cause he took it up again this summer and they are growing nicely. |

I've been trying to sort out my tiny fruit-patch that due to one thing and another I have let run wild of late - the gooseberries are looking good, the raspberries have gone berserk, black currents looking worse for wear, white currents only planted this year, so nothing to look forward to as yet, the grape vine's doing okay, the wild strabs have gone, erm, wild and the brambles are brambling. I lost an apple tree the other day and the damson's don't look too good - I think I've got an infestation of some kind, hopefully not honey-fungus. I did go hunting through the nettles for my rhubarb and managed to get stung in the mouth (don't ask)

Not bad for a Shed dweller/old geezer. Mentioning two tracks from a mid-80's Rush album as part of a serious statement. |

Isn't that last part also a reference to Zappa?

Excellent (apart from the nettle incident of course). Don't you think that wild blackberries taste so much better than the bred thornless varieties. The old adage the thornier the bush (bramble) the sweeter the berry seems to hold true. Being the saddo that I am I run the brambles along a cordon of wires. It sure makes picking them in the autumn easier. They are just coming into flower.
I love putting a big handful of them on my cereal in the autumn. The only trouble is that once the blackberries are ready to eat you are well into autumn and that is the end of another summer. Mixed emotions. Ah well, makes you appreciate the seasons more.

Totally coincidental I'm afraid. And it would have to be a Rush album as well!!

Absolutely agree - I love wild blackberries over tame, though I do prefer them from where they don't get covered in exhaust fumes - I shudder when I see people picking them from the roadside. I 'train' mine through the rear hedge - Mrs Darq doesn't care for that approach but it's a fine use for an uninspiring pine hedge as far as I'm concerned - and the resulting apple and blackberry pie is reward enough for the constant ear-bending about "sorting out that bloody hedge".
I'm big on seasonal foods - they taste better in season and have less air-miles. Who really needs strawberries at christmas for pete's sake - that's what jam was invented for.

You're dead right there. We somehow seem to have lost that anticipation of the seasons. I was in town the other day and you could buy Uruguayan Satsumas. Satsumas (and sixpences) are for Christmas. Anyway being the impartial type that I am I'd just like to say that there's no better strawb that a British one - that's if the birds leave me some.
As well as jams don't forget chutneys
Anyway rain tomorrow, should be good.
Tired old Hector says goodnight.

At the moment my band has 4 guitarists, and nothing else.
Can we get this to work out? |

Excellent. For the moment we have 4 guitars, no vocalist, bass, keyboard though I am going to program some drums using Guitar Pro, (I dont have a set).
One day we'll make a recording and I'll share it with y'all. I expect it to be interesting... Edited by JJLehto - June 14 2009 at 18:38 |
