I just got home from a school concert. I didn't mess up on my bassoon solo in Night on Bald Mountain. Big smile

One induces visions of heaven (Beach Boys), the other induces headaches (tech/extreme). Wink

but yeah, I'm not really that elitist to state my opinion as a fact.  Although I do easily prefer The Beach Boys to any metal band, there is some metal I enjoy.

It's official.
I've heard pretty much every prog metal band I want to hear and I haven't even heard 1/10th of the list in PA.
Yet, I want to hear almost every Tech/Extreme band.
Prog Metal really does suck compared to Tech/Extreme.

A lot of the math rock i've heard sounds great, and it seems to have some parallels with Tech/Extreme.  I'm really not into most heavy and technical music, or even heavy music in general.  Give me some ethereal beautiful dream pop/shoegaze any day.

Math Rock is a misnomer anyway.
It should be called Mathcore, and Mathcore should be called technical metalcore.
Math Rock has groundings in hardcore, not 'rock' as such, hence the misnomer.
Good genre though.

Isn't there a genre called Mathcore?  I remember someone talking about it.  I could be wrong, I don't know very much about hardcore music or Math Rock.

Husker Du's Zen Arcade is a fantastic album , that much I know.  It's more "progressive" than a lot of the bands on PA.  Progressive Rock is another misleading genre name.

There is a genre called Mathcore, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it in my other postLOL
But the whole point is, Math Rock would make more sense to be called Mathcore (since it has more do with hardcore than 'rock) and Mathcore should be called Techmetalcore (since it has more to do with metalcore than hardcore).
I'm virtually the resident punk guru around these parts anywayTongue since my sister exposed to me to a crap load of punk.
