Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Nice list ... and these are my preferences. Just having Nick's great album "Fictitious Sports" ... is worth the list ... now let's try to get that thing to start! Edited by moshkito - May 17 2024 at 20:31 |

I don't own everything by a long way. I am biased heavily towards Waters who was the soul of the band after Barrett was jettisoned. Not a nice person but that's irrelevant.

Updated my list above as I'd forgotten Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs

Broken China is so low in your list, I think it's a great album. I find it more interesting than some albums by Waters and Gilmour.

For some reason it doesn't connect with me at all, I much prefer Wet Dreams.

I just can't do it. The only way I can rate the albums in order of preference is if I list each artist separately.

Excellent album. I’d pick it over Atom Heart Mother, division bell, and the wall. |

That's an interesting take, Lewian! I wonder how you would tier the releases. Would you be interested in tiering them (categorizing them into the S, A, ... F tiers)? You can do that with an AP account, but if that is too much of an obstacle, I could make that available to PA users as well.

Hmmm... Superb: Ummagumma, DSOTM, Animals
Awesome: Meddle, Piper, AHM, Saucerful of Secrets, Fictitious Sports Great: WYWH, Gilmour, Wall, ITTLYRW, More Good: Wet Dream, Endless River. The hard thing about this is the reference frame. Compared to average rock music, the last two are still great, and I decided to stop at 15 but they have certainly quite a few more I'd classify as "good", if not against their own standard. Also awesome is some kind of grey area between superb and great, the borders between these would be floating. (Also I decided against including samplers and live albums making an exception for Ummagumma, the live disc of which I consider the essential Pink Floyd. Otherwise Pulse would be listworthy as well as Mason's recent Roundhouse performance, which actually had me in the audience. Not to mention some bootlegs I have heard. I'll see Mason's Saucerful of Secrets again in the summer, open air.) By the way, for some reason the copy&paste recommended on your site would not reproduce the list with images properly for me, which chances are is black magic anyway.

Hi, I think that WET DREAMS was a much simpler album than BROKEN CHINA, which was a really nice album but not as accessible as the first one. BC takes a little getting used to and probably is a good indication of the kind of experimenting and work that RW wanted to pursue more of, had it not been for the band, expecting him to do only one thing. And I, honestly, like his lyrics better than DG's!

Nice lists, keep them coming! I've just improved the export code with more options to enable less verbose lists which still look nice:
