[QUOTE=richardh]I'm only just beginning to explore Queen's back catalogue but already I feel that Sheer Heart Attack is a big jump forward from II. I've got A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races on order and will probably get Innuendo soon but I guess I can stop at that point, right?[/QUOTE
Until A Night At The Opera it's the Queen at their best. You couldn't do any mistake with their first four records. IMO their '70th stuff is great so until Jazz it's fine (although you couldn't expect too much progressiveness from later records - News Of The World or Jazz namely - but it's still the Queen). Then from The Game it starts to be more pop/disco (but here and there there are great songs anyway on all their records) with the lowest point usually considered around Hot Space and The Works. Then it's starts to be better onward to Innuendo.

By the way, Farrokh Bulsara was a great singer without a question, but back in 70s I enjoyed 10cc vocals far more.

Like 10CC, but love Queen. Queen is just sooo much better IMO. They have versatility and their singers are much better than 10CC's. |
10cc had FOUR great singers - Queen had only one great one and two decent ones.

Sorry but I can't take Queen seriously. Got to be 10cc, shouldn't really be a contest. Queen... Really?

Hi, Always thought 10CC was more important because of where they came from and also for where they took a lot of their stuff. They wrote for many folks before their band, including Neil Sedaka, and then Hotlegs (had the hit for Nearderthal Man, and then 10CC ... not to mention that one person in the group directed almost ALL the videos for The Police at the time, which helped introduce the band on MTV. Queen has some outstanding things, but really ... it's just a rock band! A good rock band, mind you!

Ah, 10cc, The Lovin' Spoonful and Pearl Jam... alas all three are probably apocryphal urban myths.

In re, 10cc. Graham Gouldman stated in regards to the band's name: "The average male ejaculation is 10cc. There’s a couple of reasons really, but that’s the short answer." Found here: I see no reason to doubt it. It certainly less idiotic an answer than "it came to me in a dream" as once was foisted about.

Curiously, all eight people involved have written No 1 singles for their respective bands - Queen members individually and 10cc in pairs.

Well, one can always get their allotted 10cc in solo or in pairs.
