Topic: Rating abuse in several artists albums Posted: March 20 2012 at 15:21 |
Greetings, I'm a very frequent user but I rarely post in the forum and today I must because I noticed several irregularities.
In the top 100 and the top albums by year lists, wich I use a lot, since last week several albums by Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman among others, as well as Various Artists (Tribytes) have been appearing. Albums wich didn't have enough ratings but now are all over the place. Case in point: http://www.progarchives.com/album-reviews.asp?id=17840 27 five stars ratings and not a single review. Clicking the last few users wich rated the album I found a patter wich you should check... http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=39685 http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=39684 http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=39678 http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=39673 http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=39663 Those are just the last 5 to rate that album. Please look into it, it looks like a single user creating multiple accounts to inflate the rating on those albums, mostly by Yes and its members. Thank you for reading... gen |

Yes I reported this yesterday. And this individual seems to be making even more accounts.

No worries. I posted it in the reviews reporting thread. Glad to see someone else was on to this baffling dedication toward ratings manipulation. |

Do you rate a bands discography with 1 star ratings..........you mean you subject yourself to a a band you evidently do not like so you might give every album a one star rating??? not too likely.........grow up and at least have more respect for the site!

That's ridiculous, not just his one stars, but his consistent use of giving the same ratings to a band's discography. And I can''t believe that he's heard a great many of those albums -- aside from mistrusting his looking into various discographies when he doesn't like them, his tastes are not consistent enough -- I'm not just saying that cause I see albums that I love that he's given every star rating to, well, partially I am, but that I find it hard to believe that he could think various albums bad when I see what he likes. He's just trying to prop up his favourites probably, without hearing much of the others.

Obvious he is not even true to his own taste in music and does the site a disservice by rating manipulations.

Some of them are careful. For example 1 star for all Yes albums after Drama.

I have another idea for admins. I think he is a little bit kiddy, and likes to destroy and see the results. Maybe we can slow down his possiblities. A newly registererd user should only rate one album a day for a certain time. Or every user must be doing at least one review before he can rate (other) albums. Hopefully he gets bored by slow progression of his work of destruction.

It's not up to admins, it's a technical issue and up to a webmaster. I don't think this idea of "at least one review" will be implemented ever - ratings without reviews are primarily here because of non-English-speaking people. As for the "one rating a day" at the beginning, for what is worth, I like the idea, but I don't think the site owner do. |

I hope this is the place to report this. Yesterday while writing my review i checked other ratings too for that album.
The album rating was very high, and out of 9 reviewers, 6 gave the album 4 or 5 stars but one reviewer gave it 1 star which seemed pretty weird. I entered the person's review list and found out he has 2480 ratings without a single review! or forum posts, and it seems about 70% is a one star rating, and for entire discographys too. For example the entire Residents discography that includes about 60 albums got one star rating.
This looks very weird and is suspicious, worth checking out IMO.
If you would like i can post a link to his rating page.

Scratch the 'if you would like' next time, simply post the link and save us all some time (or send a PM to an admin with the link if you don't feel like putting it on the public forums). Awaiting the link now...

At least he likes UZ
But yeah, that looks pretty manipulative to me. People don't understand that finding something not to your tastes doesn't mean it's sh*t. |

Yeah what's the deal with bashing those albums, i'm sure he didn't listen to most of it. I mean if you dislike the Residents so much why do you keep listening to their whole discography, this is so obvious.

That list does look fishy, but it could be that he has a sibling, roommate, or friend with many of those albums, so that's why he heard lots of them. I heard all of Rush's albums due to a friend who I shared a house with for six months -- and boy did I get really, really sick of them. It can be pretty difficult to avoid music in such cases. And he offered me plenty of cash to trash my Bauhaus CD; instead, I yan and yang lumber punched him (go taste a tart and then eat my lunch).
I agree with a lot of his not Residents ratings, but damn, he should be shot (joking of course with the term) for these: JEAN-CLAUDE VANNIER L'enfant assassin des mouches(rating only) VANGELIS The Dragon(rating only) VANGELIS Hypothesis(rating only) (amongst others) TORTOISE Millions Now Living Will Never Die (rating only) PIERROT LUNAIRE Pierrot Lunaire(rating only) NEU! Neu! 2(rating only) MAGMA Mëkanïk Kömmandöh(rating only) KULTIVATOR Barndomens Stigar(rating only) BJORN J:SON LINDH Cous Cous(rating only) BJORN J:SON LINDH Från Storstad Till Grodspad(rating only) BJORN J:SON LINDH Ramadan(rating only) BJORN J:SON LINDH Sissel(rating only) IL BERLIONE Il Berlione(rating only) EMMANUEL BOOZ Le Jour où les Vaches... (rating only) DAVID AXELROD Earth Rot(rating only) JEAN-PIERRE ALARCEN Jean-Pierre Alarcen(rating only) JEAN-PIERRE ALARCEN Tableau No. 2(rating only) I don't buy that he's listened to a lot of the ones he has rated, maybe briefly sampled them, and others he probably has never properly listened to. And with Le Orme I noted that he rated lots with ones, but the ones he rated higher I agree with, and I would rate the same (best is Contrappunti for me as well as him). His ratings of a particular bands' albums commonly do vary,. And it did seem to me like he may going after a lot of little rated ones to bring sown the average. Is he trying to manipulate lists? I don't know. |
