Topic: Lizard Vs Atom heart mother Posted: October 12 2005 at 08:29 |
Sorry for the ridiculous choices. I choose these two because they are both from 1970 from two very different bands.
Lizard is about the "prototipe of prog". For the mood, sounds, arrangements, playing, etc. However, it may also be one of the least accesible pieces of music to most people. To others, like myself, it is magic.
Atom is probably the least progressive rock Epic ever. It hardly has any rock. Still, it is somehow very inspiring, it is way more accesible than "Lizard" and it is also enjoyable.
Please try to be as explicit as possible.

Oh come on guys ¡¡¡. You must have something to say about these songs?. I thought this was the site where the most progressive rock lovers gathered ¡¡¡.
That´s what happens when the title of the poll does not include PROG-POP themes.

Don't worry eduardossc!! I'll answer with pleasure to your question:
Lizard is anyway better, from every point of view: it's more
experimental (it's not enough to strech a musical theme across
strange sound under drugs effect to call it "experiment"), much better
played (I've always thought Pink Floyd technique was quite poor) and in
my opinion even more exciting as a consequence of what I'just
said...now I'm public enemy n°1 of all Pink Floyd fans, But I'll take
responsabilities of my position!

Thank you very much for your explicit concepts.

Space is dark it is so endless
When you're lost it's so relentless
It is so big, it is small

Atom Heart Mother is one of my favourite song and album... I don't think this song is about arrangements...It is what I would call progressive psychedelia! Evolving from their roots int psychedelia, PF went to the extreme of the genre with this song. Extremely well done song and album!
Lizard is also one of thoose great albums. But I do not see it as groundbreaking as AHM was the pinnacle of a genre and a cult album for a whole generation!
Both are awesome and must listen and own, but my vote definitely goes to AHM.

I choose Lizard , althought I never heard Atom Mother Heart...but nothing Pink Floyd has done comes close to the masters of prog...specially not with this excellent album!

Tough, I like them both....
I chose 'Atom heart mother' simply because it has more emotion for me, not sure why, it somehow creates an atmosphere that is very hard to put a finger on...
Lizard is a very good song...one of the better KC tunes...love Anderson's vocals on the first part..

I have to admit, these are both excellent albums but my vote has to go to lizard, it just has this otherworldiness about it.
