Another great year for prog, especially with Gentle Giant, Egg, VDGG, etc., but sticking to the "Big 6", which is your favourite album and why?

You can probably guess mine Tongue Lizard, ITWOP, and Time And A Word would all be 5-star albums though.

Thanks for any feedback Smile

Very difficult to choose.

It's between both Crimson albums and ELP for me, and Trespass aint to shabby either. What a year..can't vote..

Three candidates for me, although neither is the Album of the Year: Atom Heart Mother, In the Wake of Poseidon (an improvement of Itchycock imho) and ELP's self-titled debut. I vote for Atom Heart Mother because I have a long history (more than 41 years) with this album.

^Well, my history with AHM is not so long... but enough to say that I love every single track from this PF album, surely It will keep being my favourite of them.
+1 for Atom Heart Mother.

First to vote for ELP.
Their first album was groundbreaking.
2nd I'd put Genesis, but I think they came closer with Nursery Crymes. None of the others even come close.

It was close between Trespass and Lizard, but Trespass has the unique beauty and atmosphere that wasn't quite captured ever again. Lizard has the title track, which is wonderful - but the other songs aren't as consistent as the Trespass collection.

Very hard poll !! I choose "Lizard" but its not easy for me. Lizard is a unique album. Unique sound with dark atmosphere. "Lizard" and "Islands" are "Different albums" in KC's discography. You cant find this kind of "Dark Music" easily.

Much more interesting year (competition-wise). Love every album except the first and the last in the poll. Benefit is actually my favorite Tull-album. Fantastic atmosphere and excellent songwriting from start to finish.

Got to think a little first. Love Poseidon and can't relate to the criticism of it. Perfect its own beauiful way to my ears and the titletrack brings tears to my eyes. But then again Lizard, Trespass and Atom are dear favorites of mine too.

1.Benefit  2.Lizard  from the list

But in general H to He is by far my favourite album from 1970

P.S. Why no VdGG instead of ELP in "BIG SIX"?

Tough call, for me between ELP, AHM and IWOP. I would have to, however, go with the ELP debut...

Atom Heart Mother for me. Though Trespass is a more consistent album and as a whole a better one, but I just can't vote against the song Atom Heart Mother, there's nothing I like even remotely as much on Trespass (or any of the other albums on the list - even though the songs "In the Wake of Poseidon" and the duo "Prince Rupert Awakes / Bolero" are really wonderful too).

Easy pick for me: Genesis' Trespass, but I do love Crimson's Lizard and ELP's self-titled debut.

Atom. It hasn't been my first prog album, but it introduced mr to 20 and more minutes long tracks and together with Elp, it started my interests into classical music

ELP's debut is absolutely stunning and it gets my vote.
Time And A Word and Trespass are not very far behind, though, in my personal top 3.

Now this really is a tough one, very difficult to choose.

The only one I'd quickly discount is Time and A Word.  The 2 KC albums are among my favourites of theirs (even though I'm not a huge fan), Trespass is quality whilst AHM has moments of true genius.  The AHM Suite is the best piece of music from any of these albums but the album is of varied quality.

At a push I'm going for the ELP debut.  If you asked me say which one of these I fancied playing right now (truth be told I've not listened to any of them in ages) that's the one I'd pull from the rack.  Come to think of it I might just do that...........

ELP by a mile. What a killer debut album! Trespass, Benefit and Time and a Word a distant second. Floyd and Crimson bringing up the rear.
