It is time again. Our third installation of the Prog Rockers Fantasy Football League. Congratulations to last years winner Equality 7-2512 "Vinny Currying". Well played sir. First topic is site host. I just renewed the the yahoo league and sent out invites, however, I am open to switching to the NFL or ESPN site if anyone is dissatisfied with Yahoo's approach. Secondly, the plaque is being updated with last years winner metal being put in place and hopefully they can fix the "Foot Ball" typo... Equality 7-2512, if you would like me to send you the plaque please PM and we can arrange this, if however you wish to let it ride to this years victor I'm cool with that as well. For all people participating, if you win and want the plaque for a year you have to at least split the shipping cost with me, after that you and the next years winner can hash things out, but if you win It'd be nice if you ponied up the measly shipping amount to get a cool plaque you can have for year and brag about... Thirdly, the scoring system, I see no reason to change anything unless someone says something. I know last year I was upset about something with the points for defenses but everyone seemed to like how they are set so speak now or in the next 40 or so days. Lastly, I enjoy playing fantasy football but I understand that it is mostly a gamble. Players get hurt, rookies implode or explode, and the ball bounces the other way sometimes. These things we have no control over and therefore should not get so heated about players/team/coaches/managements actions. This in no way happened amongst any of us, but in my other leagues things got really nasty. Let me just remind people that we are not only playing just a game, but it is literally a fantasy of another game(you almost couldn't get more meaningless). This in no way means we should not gripe about poor moves, or do some sh*t talking where appropriate; but I think everyone here knows what I'm talking about where perhaps one or two people can take away from the fun of it all by getting way too serious.
I also want to emphasize that our league is kinda small, and while I do not want some 18-24 team league monstrosity, we have room for at least 4 more people. So I know there are some on the forum who missed out last year and I'll do my best to look them up, but if you can help remind those forum members around you it would help me a lot.
And with that all said...
Go Hawks!!!

I'm definitely in. I actually prefer Yahoo to ESPN quite a bit. I used ESPN for two other leagues and didn't care for it much.

Oh snap, count me in again.
Y es, this is exactly why I (and no one should!!) bet $$ on this. It's all for fun, but there's too much madness to risk money on. Or ya know...you can have a stud WR who refuses to play half the games, and his crap attitude getting him benched right before kick off which cost me a game...god damn Nicks
I'll agree, out of Yahoo, NFL.com and CBS I liked Yahoo best of those. GO BIG BLUE, I still bELIeve :P

Here is the link for an invite to the league. http://y.ahoo.it/kzPKW5xe" rel="nofollow - http://y.ahoo.it/kzPKW5xe
ManofMystery is out and I already sent an invite to ManwithaHat, a member who also missed out on last year, to take his spot. So this now brings us to an uneven league, but I am confident we'll be able to find at least one more person before September.
Also, the owners of the teams Melody Marauders, Chaos Hemetique, and Vinny Currying have not re-uped. I sent another email reminder.

My Brees/stud WR heavy team was so boom/bust. Nothing was more frustrating than having 9001 points one week, then the next Denver scores 50+ yet somehow both Demariyus and Welker had nada That said, I will be bold/aggressive as always! :D

The draft should be very interested. A lot a trades/moves in the NFL this year, and I predict this will lead to a lot of sleepers. What I mean is, I think a lot of the peoples major players will be drafted in later rounds, or perhaps better worded as players drafted as backups for bye weeks or flex spots have the potential to be more of threat once the season gets rolling. This is all a hunch of course but I'm going to be wary of those "draft him for sure next year" guys like Demaryius/Julias Thomas, Foles, or Lynch. A lot of research to do...

I have no objection to your wife joining, but I think she should also make an account on the archives as well (for posterity sake). Also I am going on a week vacation tomorrow so other than periodic phone checks I will not be around the forums, but this season will get here sooner than later so let's start shouting out some draft times... If I recall I am one of few members on the west coast so I will accommodate to the majority for time of day. I do like drafts that take place close to the end of preseason but I understand it is a holiday weekend towards the end of August and people tend to be out of town around then. The season starts on September 4, a Thursday game Hawks vs Packers. Please login and review the scoring system and voice objections now if you have any. I do know another member who said he would join so I will contact him and see if he is serious, then we'd just need one more for a solid league. I have a wife as well, and she enjoys most of the prog I spin at home, but last year I let her play in the work fantasy league (which I also am commissioner of), and she won, and people got upset and called foul play. But half her team consisted of people she thought looked hot, her QB was Tom Brady but people still gave me sh*t... so I am on the fence about using her as a last person fill-in. But this happens every year, some member will start hearing about fantasy later on in the month once preseason starts and will come and ask to be in... the shame of it all is most of the time they come in threes and I still have to wind up giving someone the ol' heave hoe.

She has an http://www.progarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=25225" rel="nofollow - account here. Don't know what happened to her avatar. My purpose in asking her to play was to avoid having an odd number. If she has to sit out due to the situation you mentioned, she won't be broken-hearted. Just trying to give us an even number.

Yes Drew, and with that and the other member whom I know we will have a even league.... Rob we can always find another if your wife has her heart set on playing. The member I know is currently on the other side of the country on vacation so when he gets home I will make sure to nag him into getting in the league.
Drew to join up you need a yahoo account and then on the first page of this thread there is a link to the league invite. If you have trouble finding it PM and i'll give you a direct link. Also, draft dates people, I have one on the 9/3 and another 8/31. I don't mind doing more than one draft in a day so those could be potential starting spots.

With Drew joining that would make 11, and then the other member I know would make 12. We could do a 14 person league with your wife and another person joining, I do not want to exclude anyone, but I think it would be nice if we could keep the members of the league confined to people who are also members of the archives... and for the love of Jebus someone please mention if one of those two proposed draft days will be alright, the last thing I want if for more than half the league to miss the draft. The last two years we've had almost 100% turnout, grant it it was only an 8 and 10 person league, but the month is hallway through so let's get it hashed out.

I really do not mind at all, and she still can be in the league. You did say you were only saying so because of the even numbers needed, and while that still may apply with or without her joining, if she would genuinely like to be a participant then there is a link on the first page of this thread that is an open invite to whomever clicks on it. If there is one problem I would have about people who join the league that do not regularly frequent the archives is that if they were to perhaps win, that is one more year of me holding on to the plaque (as I think someone not into the archives/prog would not want the plaque). Also, I like the camaraderie we've developed here and I enjoy playing with roughly the same group of people every year, and people outside the archives (not necessarily talking about Mrs.Brown) have little chance or playing again next year. I was actually hoping to discuss turning this into a dynasty league (where you get to keep a player or two from your roster year to year to year) but I would only want to implement this when there everyone playing is at least a year deep into the league.

She went from uninterested "okay I'll do it" to "okay this is fun" in relatively short time. I ran a mock draft with her. She is interested.
If you need one more person, I am fairly confident I can get you one (and someone who is on ProgArchives, no less).
As for dates, anytime but this Sunday afternoon EST or the work week that follows will be good for me.

Draft should be at an earliest after the 3rd week of preseason. (I prefer after the fourth but it's a tight window that way especially with the holiday weekend...so slightly earlier is acceptable.) As for times of day, either early afternoon (12-2ish) or late at night (9:30 or later) is preferred for me.

JOSH GORDON!? Nicely done computer
Well, I can't complain about Rodgers at QB and the line up doesn't seem horrid actually.

Even though Brian Hoyer is Cleveland's starter, I find it hilarious that there are 3 other Cleveland QB's being drafted by fantasy teams more than him.

I did find it disappointing when I saw only 5 people at the draft
yesterday. Anyways, JJlehto, Gordon was drafted very near the end. If he
ends up getting a reduced suspension, like maybe 8 weeks instead of the
full year, you will be doing okay.

I was going to draft him round 11/12 so assuming it autodrafted him then I would say good move.

It was indeed autro drafted, and ya know I totally forgot that he could potentially get the suspension reduced, especially with all the rage directed at the comish for Gordon's penalty vs Ray Rice's. If he got half a year and comes back to make my playoff run...that would be pretty dope.
Rodgers is a beast. Julio Jones, Maclin with Foles now throwing the ball and Mike Wallace...this is not shabby. LeSean McCoy! I gotta make some moves but ya know this is not bad.

I need to apologize to everyone. I didn't mean for the draft to be set up to start yesterday :(. I feel really bad about this but I suppose it is what it is. The reason for my lapse in attention is that my wife is pregnant for the first time and it is week 18-19 and we just had the gender ultrasound and things are getting complicated. Needless to say my plate is extremely full at the moment.
I won't expect to re-draft, but I know that I am not the only one who spaced the draft. I can deal with auto pick, no problem, but I wish I was there for the draft. If we can get 100% of members on board to redraft I'd go for it but as of now we'll just go with it how it is...

I think we need to hear from the 5 people who made the draft to actually consider a redraft. Were you one of them Nogbad? I assume Rob and his wife were there, can anyone else help me figure out who the other three people were?
I really feel horrible, but I never thought to change the yahoo default draft time... it just came at the worst possible moment, and with juggling commissioner of four other leagues it just got missed.
zachfive wrote:
No problem, have her sign up and why not get the other member to sign up as well. And agreed about draft time, definetly sometime after the 23rd would be preferable. |
That was said by me on page two of the thread, I was trying to anticipate for the ultrasound visit just forgot to log into yahoo and set the draft for September or sometime later....

I'm kind of okay either way I guess. My calendar is so ful right now I might end up autodrafting again even if you reschedule, and I have another live draft on the 27th so that night is probably out. Other than the fact my WR corps are pretty much all perennial disappointments and one of my RBs just got busted for pot, things didn't turn out much better or worse than I could have done on my own. Overall I'm pretty happy with QB, RB, TE and Def.

I'm mad that I didn't get to draft, but i don't necessarily think it's fair to those who drafted to do a redraft. There's still plenty of opportunities for trades and waiver-wire to adapt your teams.

Well as it stands now we are sticking with it. But I am still very interested in hearing what the rest of the league has to say so we'll give it a couple of days to get some responses and see how to proceed. I'd like to redraft, not because of my roster, but because I'd like to participate in the process. Also because it never should have happened in the first place, it was a genuine mistake. Either way it goes we'll have a blast. Would we all be interested in a weekly side pot? Every week it would be for a different position, and the person with the player in that position who scores the highest fantasy points wins that weeks side pot. The value of winning a side pots could determine next years draft order. (total points could be a tiebreaker) e.g week 1 highest QB points, week 2 highest RB points, week 3 highest WR, etc..

I like the idea of side pots.
I also like the idea of drafting exactly as the NFL does, based on season finish.

|

Drafting according to the NFL makes no sense. There's no issue of parity since we're not a keeper league. I won the league last year, but before drafting I did not have any of the players which won me the league last year.

I'm fine either way, but I really would say we should not re-draft. Would be a bit unfair and hey, is our fault ultimately for missing it. Seems many others are pretty neutral to somewhat not for it so I say let's just roll with what we got.
Though if a re-draft is done, well I'll be sure to pre select my players just in case I miss it again

It is my fault for not resetting the draft time to allow for more time to get things figured out. The default setting was overlooked, I am sure more people would have shown up if they had just known about it. Currently we'll be sticking with what we have unless a general consensus can be achieved.
As for side pots/next years draft order I am going to come up with something tonight and post it for weekly side pots. We can determine there worth/value before, or even during the season, but at least we'll have the system in place. Last year there was a suggestion that the winner chose an album for the rest of us to review, or something to that extent (side pots that year never came to be). There is also the weekly pick 'em were you try to predict the weekly outcomes of the head to head match ups of the league players. That is more for fun and a lot of people wind up forgetting but perhaps we could use those for tiebreakers if a tie does occur for side pots (overall total or on the rare occasion two players score identical points on a given week)

I understand that. I just explained why it is a poor idea and a random draw is more fair. The entire idea of reverse ranking drafting is predicated on on creating parity based on the idea that successful teams in year N will also be successful in year N+1. This is unfounded and more just plain wrong. It sets up perverse incentives. Teams tank, dump players in trades to tank when they're out of the playoffs.

It's all good. Honestly, only reason I was peeved was that this is the computers game for me sure moves can be made but I've looked a bit and slim pickins. If I won, or finish last, (or whatever the result) it's not really because of me and that sucks. And didn't get exactly who I wanted but can't complain, even got SF's defense so that is cool.
As for the album idea, I'll just say: If I win, I am making all of you listen to an Ariana Grande album

Someone previously mentioned the idea of doing a keeper league with like two keepers after this season. I agreed with the statement with this idea in mind. I think we have 9 teams returning from last season, which would be enough for a franchise, right?

I would totally be down for that if the draft didn't get all mucked up. Starting a keeper league the year more the half the people's teams were auto drafted is not appealing. If we wanted to redraft then maybe. I also had the idea that we could redraft, but take not of current rosters, and if after the redraft the 5 people who originally made the first draft are down to continue we can go from there. If not, no buggy we just stick with the original rosters. I don't think we'll find a solution that pleases everyone, I'm just throwing out ideas. Also want to point out this is the only league I'm in that has drafted so far. The wife used my account to join a "family" league, but other than that I have like 4 drafts coming up in the next 5 days...
|

Why don't we go ahead and redraft then. I counted 10 people that said they would like to redraft, or wouldn't mind if we did. I don't recall seeing input from the other 2. I realize it is a bit last-minute at this point, but I think it could happen. I think the consensus was as long as we keep the same order.
Thoughts?
