Hi there! Just wondering if anyone thinks that there are some albums on PA that deserve much more credit than they're given. A few examples for me: Caravan - s/t Egg - s/t ELP - Brain Salad Surgery (should really be a bit higher  )Genesis - From Genesis To Revelation Genesis - Duke Gong - Flying Teapot King Crimson - In The Wake Of Poseidon King Crimson - Islands Peter Sinfield - Still Procol Harum - A Salty Dog (not their best, but still great) Rush - Fly By Night Rush - Caress Of Steel Tangerine Dream - Zeit Yes - Time And A Word I know a lot of you will disagree with most of these but anyway, just post your own thoughts on albums which are too underrated for your liking. As always, thanks for any feedback!

Personally, replication of topics doesn't tend to bother me, but as sai, this
has been done a number of times. Each thread will have it's own
uniqueness and I haven't the patience to read through really long
threads these days, so I like to see fresh starts on old ideas. :)
Without checking the rankings, based on memory, I think I could agree on almost all of those. Zeit in particular has struck me as rather underrated -- a word some hate in these parts, but it works for me as shorthand -- (though I don't think Zeit as original as some do, so I could say that some may give it too much credit in terms of originality). Looking at the ratings of it, it it seems to be doing much better than when I last looked. I think Tangerine Dream's Electronic Mediation to be a much stronger work than many do (that's the album that made me fall for TD). For one that is sometimes sneered at, I really like Magma's Merci (but then I also love Offering). I sometimes wonder whether persons who dismiss it very easily have really listened to the whole album. Mixtus Orbis, by the way, is one of my favourite albums in PA. Although it has a high rating, and is the top ranked album in Indo Prog/ Raga Rock, I do wish it got more attention at PA (at least a few people, including myself, have been vocal about it). I don't feel like Indo Prog/ Raga Rock gets enough attention here either, and tens to be fr too readily dismissed (lots of very high quality music in that category for my tastes). There are lots of albums that I don't feel get enough attention, but of the bands that do get quite regularly mentioned, I do wish that Cos' third album, Babel, got more love. It has a good rating, and a decent numbe rof ratings, but still doesn't nearly as much attention as the first two Cos albums, and not nearly as much as the superb Viva Boma. I love Babel, and actually eturn to that one by Cos the most. I am not bothered by reprise threads either Greg - I just thought I'd mention a few earlier ones, so as folks who participated would see if they had changed or maybe picked up on a thing or two since. And maybe the OP could use some inspiration from previous PA adventures. I have soooo many albums I think deserve more recognition on this site, -basically every 4 or 5 (and some 3) star album I've ever written about actually. I tend to focus on the more obscure, and I have realised that most of my listening habits are far removed from the everyday PA user, which is fine by me. I have often liked to provide links for reference purposes, as well. Not only can the older topics be interesting for a person interested in the topic to look back-on for the first time (say the topic starter and others), but also it makes it easy for others who posted in the earlier topics to see what they mentioned before, and I like it as a means to acknowledge the contributions of people to past topics. Not to side-line this topic, but of course a search is often a good idea not to replicate topics, especially, say when it's a very specific topic -- say a band appreciation thread or more importantly when suggesting a new band when one should bump the older thread if it's not locked (helps to see what was already said, and can save a lot of effort -- though the search function is a little unreliable for me). That aside aside, and onto another aside, I would also focus on the more obscure if I were a reviewer. Far too much that I think superb languishes in obscurity. Some believe that quality readily equated to popularity/ knownness, but not really to me. We have had so many polls with the qualifier that only albums with one hundred plus ratings are to be included, for instance, which perpetuates the popularity of the already popular in a way. Even in topics, I would generally rather focus on the less known. I'll intentionally stay away from the ones I normally recommend in these topics just to challenge myself a bit. I'd say Rush's Vapor Trails, personally. It's really solid and stands alongside some of their petter works from earlier in their career, I've always felt. I've had similar sentiments about Power Windows too. |

None of these are exactly unknown albums (with the possible exception of Sinfield) and every artist is going to have albums that aren't regarded as highly as others. So I don't really see an issue with rating Flying Teapot slightly lower than Angel's Egg or You for example. All of them are liked to some extent and none of them get seriously lambasted so creating an artificial league table of albums by well known artists is always going to put one album above another, albeit subjectively.
