A search for Mumpbeak resulted with nothing so I don't think that they have been mentioned here before.  I am including a link to this article on AllAboutJazz that talks about this band. http://news.allaboutjazz.com/news.php?id=106904#.Us3B9PsUqHY" rel="nofollow - http://news.allaboutjazz.com/news.php?id=106904#.Us3B9PsUqHY

The musicians include names that some of you may have heard of like Bill Laswell, Pat Mastellotto, Tony Levin, Roy Powell, and Shanir Blumenkranz.  The song Forelock was included on a recent sampler from Prog magazine.  I don't have any links to the music at the moment so will post once I find any, or if anyone else has heard them and has an opinion please feel free to add it.

Here is some information on their debut album.  http://www.silent-watcher.net/billlaswell/discography/m/mumpbeak.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.silent-watcher.net/billlaswell/discography/m/mumpbeak.html

Thank you,

Scott

Don't forget that as a collab you can bring suggestions right to the team. Smile

I am aware.  I was hoping someone else might be familiar with the band and help to guide the suggestion in the right direction.  My gut feel are the two categories I listed but when it comes to purely instrumental music I'm never really sure where it should be categorized.

I just listened to the samples and wouldn't see it in JRF from those -- to me ir's in the Art Rock camp.  I'd say likely it's Eclectic Prog with a strong dose of Heavy Prog -- it has bluesy jazz in the mix, but got a heavy (Red era) Crimson vibe going on.  Be easier to properly judge when listening to the whole album.

I did find that the album is on Spotify if you are inclined to check it out further.  My initial inclination was that this was discussed on jazz sites so it should be listed under jazz rock, but it kind of has an eclectic feel to me as well, hence my second suggestion.  I think that I will go ahead and take it to the eclectic team first and let them have their way with it.

There may well be more jazz from what I read in the article, but I think you're right to bring it to Eclectic.

By the way: Spotify is "not currently available in [my] country".  Don't get Hulu (for TV shows) here in Canada either -- a site I really wanted to watch classic Twilight Zone and classic The Outer Limits episodes on.

Roy Powell is involved in several other jazz/fusion type projects that may be of interest to this site. For starters check out the tracks that Rarenoiserecords have made available for streaming from the two 'Naked Truth' albums: https://www.rarenoiserecords.com/jukebox/naked-truth/ouroboros/" rel="nofollow - https://www.rarenoiserecords.com/jukebox/naked-truth/ouroboros/ and https://www.rarenoiserecords.com/jukebox/naked-truth/shizaru/" rel="nofollow - https://www.rarenoiserecords.com/jukebox/naked-truth/shizaru/   Thumbs Up

Edit: Svetonio suggested Naked Truth about two years ago: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=84673" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=84673 . They went to Eclectic's little hangout, I believe...and I guess that's where they still are now!!   Tongue

Bumped.  Back in February the Eclectics suggested that the Heavies should evaluate them, so time to give them a move.
