| from the most popular, to the most underrated, Camel provided in my opinion a more pop feel to their prog rock style (ive never listened to their music besides "Lady Fantasy" awhile ago) now, this episode dedicates to their work. Which is the best out of their output? |

Of Camel's studio albums, Snow Goose for sure (I'm not a really big Camel fan, but I just never tire of that album). My favourite Camel album overall is a Live Record. |

Camel was among my very first bands, long before I even knew what prog was. All these albums carry a lot of sentimental value with me, except maybe the last few. I'd have to say that today, if there were one Camel album I would not want to live without, it would be Breathless. It's departing a bit from their classic proggy sound, so it's debatable whether or not it's their "best", but I'll vote for it anyway. ------------- My other avatar is a Porsche It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle if it is lightly greased. -Kehlog Albran |

My top 5 (the Camel albums I have):
1. Moonmadness 2. Mirage 3. Rain Dances 4. Camel 5. The Snow Goose I've heard some of their others (not all though), and of those Rajazz really struck a chord with me. If I were to put in my list it'd probably be in 3rd, after Mirage. -------------

Camel-great debut 8.5/10
Mirage-bit disappointing, nimrodel and twister are gems though 7.5/10 Snowgoose-bit experimental, not enough vocal 7.5/10 Moonmadness-classic 9/10 Raindances-love it 9/10 Breathless-pretty good 8.5/10 I can see-fairly good 8/10 Nude-cool stuff 8/10 ------------- All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock. |

this, except I decided to waste my vote and pick Stationary Traveler. CAMEL really knew how to compile an album, better than almost any other group, and ST is the best example of it. No weak songs a few great ones, but it's the way they behave together that is peerless

Just yesterday I have listened to Rajaz and the debut album. I put the first four and Rajaz at the same level. I just listened to the debut this morning, and surprise surprise it gets my vote. Been ages since I last spun it, and man have I been missing out! I usually go for Mirage in these polls, but not today. Really dig Rain Dances and Breathless as well, and I don't fall asleep anymore while listening to the Snow Goose. I think you know something I strongly suspect that isn't yet public knowledge! BTW - anyone seeing Camel on their tour? I'm in Harrogate on Oct 19th - I haven't seen them do the full Snow Goose album (because I was not around for the 75 tour when they last did it) and I can't wait. I've spent last week relistening to the whole Camel's discography (including a live record) in chronological order. Apart of the 80% of The single factor, there's not an album that I don't like. I can See your House from Here has the weakest song ever released by Camel (Remote Romance) but has also Ice. Rajaz is a masterpiece but Stationary Traveller is one of the best albums of the bloody 80s. How does Mirage get close with simple composition ides such as Fantasy and Freefall? I've voted for their debut album. It's one of my favorite albums. I also love Moonmadness and Mirage but they got plenty of votes already  , so I chose the underdog. |

hmmm not sure about that ELP had a similar poll and hardly anything beyond Brain Salad Surgery got a vote. There are good sprinkling of votes for later albums such as Stationery Traveller and Rajaz but understandably the bulk of votes are going to their 'classic' albums. Anyway I'm impressed enough to now have Rajaz on order. Quite curious about that one.

I like Snow Goose as a complete work but have to go with the exemplary performance on A Live Record which is a great one stop shop for a great spread of Camel music. Of the studio albums Snow Goose seems obvious (although the bonus tracks on CD 1 of the reissue mess up the album picture. They could have thrown them on CD 2 with all the other material. Funny thing about perceptions - some comments regarding how wonderful Breathless is, yet I thought it was a tad poor. (Actually I hated the thing). Oh well. But Camel in concert is awesome. The Gods Of Light (Greasy Truckers gig) early version of Snow Goose is much more raw and heavy. But I think I'll vote for See Your House just for Ice - very much my sort of thing! |
