Lps pressed in countries other than the country of origion often used different coverart on the jackets.
Also reissues may have had different art.
THAT is what this thread is concerned with.
Lps only.

I had this album cover for Moonmadness growing up. Pretty corny, really. I think these were the original American versions of the Camel albums.
As well as this cover for Mirage.

These ones are well known but OK here they go:
Gentle Giant's Three Friends USA cover was actually the cover of their debut album, with the problem that the drummer in the picture (Martin Smith) had been replaced by Malcolm Mortimore but they did not notice or did not care to adjust the picture
USA cover
UK cover
And the cover of Octopus was different too

^ I think it's worse. The ciggy cover isn't great either, but I thought it was it was kinda clever at the time. I have a certain disdain for bad airbrush art. There was so much of it back in the '70's. Today's equivalent is bad Photoshop art, of which there is also an abundance.
I found that Mirage LP at my local library when I was about 14 and even then I thought it was awful. Never heard of them at the time. But I checked it out and was amazed.

Italy
UK
I have this Italian release of Earthbound. What a bizarre cover. The picture is obviously the wrong lineup. The cutouts around their heads is so wrong. And the graphic design in general is just about as bad as it gets.

^^ That Earthbound cover (the top one) is the first one I remember seeing. Makes it look like a budget-line cheapo label release like K-Tel or something.

Maybe the original Earthbound cover was not very attactive but that Italian one is dreadful
Of course we have also the well known cases of Hendrix Electric Ladyland, Scorpions Virgin Killer, or Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World, I guess they are well enough known so I'm not bothering to paste pictures.

John Wetton on Earthbound has David Bowie's haircut.

Why did the Italian Earthbound have Wetton and Bruford on the cover when didn't play on the album?

Not really Prog but a famous case of censored cover was Mom's Apple Pie self-titled album. The original cover depicted an apparently innocent farmer woman showing a pie missing a slice and licking her lip. Close inspection though revealed that the inside of the pie clearly resembled female genitalia, and furthermore dripping white juice.
The cover was banned and an alternative was released, in which the missing slice was sealed with bricks and barbed wire, topped with an American flag and two policemen watching from the window.

As you can see Twseel, the Dean-ish Nice foldout coverart which I mention is not shown there. There are some secrets still kept from search engines.

No, it wasn't, since it was banned from most of record stores: the Tories found the cover "offending and disgraceful". Then, all of the original covers were burnt.

The silver foil one with the Beardsly-style drawing is a difficult one to find. I only found a copy finally this year. The same dealer had two copies ,so I have a trade copy now as well.
The silverfoil series on Canadian Daffodil label is real collectable in my opinion:
1/ because they are all foil, so its a bit of a challange to find copies with least ringwear
2/ the are unified by having this art-nouveau/Beardsly artwork
3/ at least half in the series are prog/proggish - 2 or 3 Nice titles,Duncan Brown "Give Me ,Take You". I forget the rest. (Small Faces "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake")
Daffodil got the rights from UK Immediate Label to reissue these in the 70s.
