Does anybody else here have experiences of this kind of antique? http://imageshack.us"> I love classical music, and I managed to get a suitcase model of "His master' voice", few pacets of needles, and about 50 disks of opera aria's and such from the auctions. At last I can have the reasonable atmosphere for my evening espresso & armagnac. Sadly there's not lots of prog on this format... |

Hmm.... Current ones: Composers: Händel, J.S. Bach, Prokofiev, Musorsgi, Debussy, Vivaldi, Sibelius and Gershwin, depending do you see him as a classical composer or not. Performers: Feodor Chaliapin, Beniamino Gigli, Enrico Caruso and Placido Domingo Conductors: Neeme Järvi and Herbert von Karajan Which are your favourites? |

We have some taste in common.
I like most you quoted and especially Debussy and i'm also found of Ravel that you don't quoted. |

Sure, our national composer. I think the best compositions of him are the "Violin concerto in D-minor" (preferably the earlier version from 1904), Lemminkäinen suite (features "The swan of tuonela") and "The Wood Nymph" orchestral ballad. I have from him for the gramophone "Valse Triste" and "Violin concerto", which takes several disks. What works of him do you like? Debussy was your country man! "Pelléas et Mélisande" opera is my favourite from him, along with "L'Enfant prodigue". I guess there's still lots of music from him, that I still haven't heard though. Please, recommend some if you wish! Didn't find any of them for "the pandora's box". I nearly forgot "Andante Festivo" from Sibelius. There's an essential version from it, recorded at New York from a finnish radio broadcasted 1939, just when the second world war broke out. Sibelius himself does the conducting... You can just fappily die after you have listened that. Period. |

...talking about old sound formats now gone, here's the Elcaset, which was a tape bigger than the classic cassette, which appeared in 1976 and died in 1979.
From what i've heard, it seemed that it was not better than the classic cassette.
