Premier Fornicating Balboni for me.
I'll take Battiato over any of these though, and I love them all. Just illustrates my unhealthy obsession with the dude...

Premiata for me.
What they do on their early albums is amazing.
(I didn't check out their highly praised Stati Di Immaginazione album yet)

Three great bands. PFM gets my vote, only because personal taste, but the three are fantastic, with a lot of classics under their belts.

Went with PFM.  I always thought it was totally cool that they released both Italian & English versions of "Photos of Ghosts" & "The World Became the World".  Besides, no other RPI song rocks as hard as Chocolate Kings Wink

I'm not an RPI fan but of course I know those three quite well. All of them very high-skilled and excellent in composition and arrangement as well. I give a little preference to Le Orme even though I currently listen to PFM more often.

I have loved all three (and could have counted each as my favourite band at one time), and discovered them all at about the same time, but Banco del... is the one that I've kept returning to the most (it also took me a little longer to truly appreciate than the others).  In terms of band names (rather than artist names), though, Area is my particular fave.

Premiata Forneria Marconi is one of the best bands ever.

Oh, you know so much more RPI than I that it's emarassing. However, in a way, I think I'm with you, with as little RPI as I know. Of the 3 big of RPI, Banco are the ones I really got to love, their music is just more interesting and crazy, and Francesco's voice is just out of this world, one of my very favourites in prog and rock. On the other hand, I was kind of underwhelmed by PFM and Le Orme (though I must admit I did like "Sorona & Felona" very much indeed). There are a few other RPI albums I have really enjoyed, specially Metamorfosis' "Inferno", though YS and Zarathrustra are really nice too.

So if there was a "big six" of Italian prog who would the other three be? I would say probably New Trolls, Area and Goblin. Who's with me? Big smile

Le Orme. The album "Felona & Sorona" (the italian language version of course) is superb and my favourite one.

Le Orme is an easy choice for me
I never really warmed up to the other two, but I suppose I should give them another try

PFM - they were my first love in RPI and they still stand up well to day! Le Orme would definitely be my next favourite. Sadly, I could not find the love for Banco as much as the other two, even though I own at least 3 of Banco's albums.

Gotta go with what is probably an unsual choice to some, but for me I gotta take GOBLIN at this time. They rule for me right now. They are my Kings.

In fairness to the poll though. It's still PFM out of the 3. :)
