Yes, tuxon, Prophet Song is probably the most proggish thing they ever did, along with BR. But does that make the band prog? Do you really consider any of their albums wholly and entirely prog? Because that is supposed to be the criterion by which a group is added to the site.
Peace.

Queen II - Pomp prog, prog metal, with pompous ELP excess A Night At The Opera - explained already I think Flash Gordon - space progressive rock, comparable to some Hawkwind, a bit lighter, but definetly prog IMO
Sheer Heart attack is really near full-out prog, if it isn't already Queen I is progressive aswell After ANATO it waters down I agree, but before that it was most certainly progressive, and still the albums after ANATO can be considered Art Rock easily.
You have to want to see it
BTW the most proggiest thing they did was Fairy Feller's Masterstroke

I would have liked a third option, "Now that they are here, should they be removed". My answer to that would be no.
I have always argued against their inclusion, but I'm not too bothered that they have been added. As I have said in other threads, they will simply find their way to the periphery of the site in due course.
It should be born in mind that Queen were one of the first bands which were not added by the administrators. Under the guidelines for the "add a band facility", the site owners may remove them if they decide they should not be here. I see they have done that for at least one band already).

Sheer Heart attack is really near full-out prog, if it isn't already Not Prog at all IMO Queen I is progressive aswell In what way i don't hear it! Queen are not prog.
They shouldnt be on the Archive in the Prog Section.

No...while some of their earlier stuff is proggish,I don't think on a whole they were progressive enough to be included in the archives.

Made me curious of which band(s)?
I must say that this poll is quite bad, Queen are already in the
archives and my opinion is that no bands should be deleted. Even so, I
voted No.

3 out of 4 forum members don't want them to be on this site. So there's really no question, they DON'T belong here.

Sorry, I can't remember. I saw one in the list of new bands marked "sorry, removed" or something like that.

Queen were never considered prog and were thought of as a glam metal band. When they came along they were a kind of Bowie/Zeppelin hybrid - neither of whom are in the archives.
Yes, they had proggy elements to their sound but practically everyone did in the 70s - the two artists I mentioned above, Lou Reed, Black Sabbath, 10cc, The Who, Wishbone Ash, Deep Purple, even Elton John at times!
A great band but they don't belong on here.

Their first three albums are fantastic (I'm not so fond of the fourth, but recognise I'm in a very small minority). I don't consider them Progressive Rock, though. Some progressive traits in some songs, but I just don't put them in the same basket as the undisputed Prog Rock groups. That 1973 Melody Maker article sums it up for me as far as the first few albums are concerned: "commercial in a progressive kind of way".
I'm not too fused about QUEEN being in the Archives, but would have preferred the albums to have been listed under another category that reflects the fact that the group were considered a Glam Rock band and that the first albums are not full-blown Prog Rock. And that the music went downhill after that (in my opinion, of course); the infamous Fat Bottomed Girls and Flash's Theme make me cringe (By the way, any of you seen the 1974 cult film Flesh Gordon? It's much more entertaining than the 1980 Flash Gordon).
Mind you, there are other groups in the Archives that I wouldn't have added either, but that's another story.

I'm afraid I have just never liked Queen, period. They are just glorified Glam Rock/Pop to me...sorry.

No, although the first four albums are kind of proggy in a way. I'd say the same about Supertramp - both bands made some beautifully crafted rock/pop, and had some prog elements, but they were never really seen as prog by any nusic fans that I know.
