Frankly, I would rather chew my leg off than watch an ad for this atrocious bilge which, contrary to the misconception they peddle, is actually hated and ridiculed by the Australian public.
But I did, and I freely confess, I don't see it at all.

Met a dude from Australia many years ago that verified this. He said they preferred imports....like Budweiser  And no, I don't hear the resemblance. Unless every song with a church bell reminds me of Xanadu. He may have preferred Budweiser, but the most popular beer brands in Australia are XXXX, VB, Carlton and Tooheys, and the most popular imported beer is Corona. Yeah, Coopers Pale Ale and Coopers Sparkling Ale are good drops.  Good to know you've tried an Aussie beer other than Foster's. I was a big fan of Old Australia and Sheaf Stout. Haven't seen either of them around here in many years now. Too bad, they were miles above any domestic brews here in the 1980's. I drank that beer once, and while it certainly was mediocre, I didn't find it quite as bad as its reputation.

Ok, controversy time here. I don't think Fosters is that bad. Certainly not my drink of choice but given the quality of other 'mainstream' lagers you generally find here, if faced with the choice I'd certainly take Fosters over the likes of Carling and the awful UK-brewed b*****disation of Carlsberg without a doubt. |

Not all, actually. There are some very good ones like Budweiser Budwar (NOT the appalling US Budweiser). Some Czech, German and Belgian lagers are excellent and the burgeoning craft beer market in the US is producing some excellent brews.
But Miller, Carling, Fosters, Anheuser Busch Budweiser, Coors and even Carlsberg and British Stella Artois (the Belgian stuff isn't bad) are really only fit for flushing the toilet with.
And whilst Belgian beers can be very good, British real ale takes a lot of beating. ------------- A TVR is not a car. It's a way of life. |

Don't mind Becks Vier actually. The problem with most lager is that its pumped full of gas or something. I know someone who lived in Germany for 25 years and he can't drink the lager here as its makes him physically ill. I have a much stronger constitution and will drink ( and eat) almost anything. Traditional British beer is very appealing because there are so many breweries and so much choice. Its isn't so mass produced as lager. BTW Lager was originally introduced into the UK as a drink for women but then the young lads went for it as they couldn't take to the bitter taste of traditional English beer. Lager is okay for sticking in the fridge and drinking on a hot day but that's about it (but then Cider does a better job in that respect). Great British beers: Hobgoblin (dark strong beer that keeps you regular!) Black Sheep Ale (lovely mix of bitter and sweet) Courage Directors ( a great stalwart) Bombardier ( a full pint!) Suffolk Best (decent and not too strong) Banks Best (nice and its cheap!) Old Speckled Hen (probably my absolute favourite) |

I tried a Golden Hen (from the same brewer) last night - very pleasant, have you tried that one? I followed that with a Thwaites Wainwright, lovely. I think it's safe to say this thread has been derailed somewhat  . |
