Nice topic
Off the top of my head, the answer I will give is a very vague, but true, one. That is that this site has opened me up to a world of prog which I would otherwise not have accessed, and that is a wonderful bargain.

I love me a good bargain!
Off the top of my head:
Francis Dunnery - Let's Do What Happens Gazpacho - Tick Tock
Both CD's were found in the dollar section at my local used CD shop. The Francis Dunnery was my first by him and really introduced me to a lot of great songs. Tick Tock was a great find because it was so totally unexpected.

Recent and memorable CDs:
Crossing the Styles by Gryphon for $7.00.
Hummingbird by Wakeman & Cousins, and Big Science by Laurie Anderson for $1.00 each.
Spiritchaser by Dead Can Dance for $4.00
Too many others over too many years to recall.

I bought a milk crate full of vinyl at a flea market for $10 from a woman whose son was at one point stationed in South Korea, and a great deal of the albums were bootlegs with flimsy one-color covers. Most sounded pretty bad, but I still have a good deal of them and they consist mostly of 60s and early 70s rock and pop. A few solid names in there.
However, among all that I found legitimate releases of YES "Fragile" and CTTE, and Jethro Tull "Benefit" and "Minstrel in the Gallery." There were roughly 30 albums in there, so I got them for around 33 cents each.

Hi, Bargains on ANY account ... not just progressive! Many, many and so many over 40 years that I am not sure I can remember them all ... but I can tell you that having found things like Focus, Hawkwind, Caravan, Quatermass, Roy Harper, Kevin Ayers, Capability Brown ... and so many other things, 40 years ago, still is, to me, a precious thing! And I have NEVER, found so much music in so little a time since then ... even with today's YouTube, and ProgArchives and what not ... and sometimes I wonder if the main reason why, is that there are too many opinions that throw you off the scent of the great music! The reality is ... I can't afford to buy it all brand new! That desire to find something new, and finding a surprise along the way ... can never replace most gifts that you can possibly get in your life. I also raked the used bins in many places, and miss Rasputins (Berkeley), and Django's (Portland) something fierce ... you could find things there. Everyday Music (Portland) is ok, but their organization is very messy and difficult to travel through and after a while you want to get out, just on account of the absolutely horrible choices of music ... some of their folks play.

Pretty well right after we moved I bought a couple CDs from a second hand store online. My favourite for a while was a 1 disk sample of the 20 Years of Jethro Tull compilation. Something like $7 for that. (TAAB, A Faewell to Kings, A Change of Seasons were about the same each)
I've also bought some music from iTunes, though $10 an album isn't too amazing.
Probably the best deal ever, though, is being able to raid your parent's CD collection for free.

Last year at a Chicago store, I picked up two used CDs: "Tarkus" for $2.99 and Yes's "Magnification" for $1.99. As a bonus, I ended up liking both of them much more than I'd expected to.

I found a 1000 limited edition new vinyl of Cynic's "The Portal Tapes" for $10 (about 7USD or 5 pounds). Was pretty impressed with that, even thought it's not my favourite.

Hell, you were with me that day, it was at that Prahran Town Hall down Greville St. I found it in a crate that was on the floor. I also got Bruce Cockburn's debut S/T, which I got signed when I saw him perform at Joe's Tavern, Eumundi (near Noosa) several years back. Those were the days.......

At the time, I probably had no idea what it even was! That's the second album, isn't it? If so, that's the one I really like, so I feel it's your moral duty to do the right thing and pass it on to me lol!
Actually, the Kew record fair is coming up just after I finish nightshift in a week or so, did you ever go to that one, and if so, was there much in the way of prog?

He's the one I got those gorgeous Jefferson Airplane `Takes Off' and `Bless It's Pointed Little Head' from at Camberwell with you that time, right? For a bargain price too, and they were pristine - record AND cover/sleeve.
I may skip the Kew fair, because the Camberwell/Box Hill one is only two weeks later. Hopefully some bargains there this time....but I can't help feeling the well has dried up at that fair....

Ever since he passed on, it's slim-pickings at those fairs.....

ELP - Pictures at an Exhibition for £2 on cassette back in 1976 started my journey.
J M Jarre box set of everything up to Zoolook for £60 was very good value at the time.Perhaps not an out and out bargain but it probably would have cost about £90 to get all the albums seperately.(7 albums including one double The Concerts In China). I was very pleased with that one especially as it included a full digital remaster of Rendez - Vous which was not available in its single CD release.

I used to scour the dollar bins at the northeast Ohio record stores for bargains. Made a lot of nice one-dollar finds - Opeth's Morningrise and Colosseum's Daughter Of Time, just to name a couple.

Found that CD in a used "We can't sell 'em" clearance for $.50. Also found OOIOO's Taiga in a Japanese pressing in the same bin. Babylon's self titled release was a door prize at 1999 Progfest. But nothing beats the Live Magma mp3's $2-5 from Amazon.

I found a copy of Zappa's "Freak Out" vinyl album for $2. It was so cheap because the vinyl was not in very good shape, but I bought it anyway, as many of us would have, just for the cover art.
A few years later, I lent the LP to a guy I went to college with, who was visiting Atlanta to see a Phish concert (that I was also attending) - he said he was going to make a T-shirt out of the cover art. I never saw him or the LP again. Don't do drugs, kids.

A few years ago I got "Aqualung" & "Tales From Topographic Oceans" & "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" for £1 each, original vinyl releases, in great condition. A few years ago I got "John Barleycorn Must Die" & "Valentyne Suite" & others for free, also original vinyls in great condition. I later sold one of the latter for over £60.
